Bring Virtualization To The Desktop
Virtualization for servers has been much discussed, but some analysts and experts believe the future is in desktop virtualization. Although the strategy has existed in some form for the last 15 years, it’s only in the past few years that the models have been utilized to enhance security and manageability.
“Applying virtualization to the corporate desktop can address some of today’s toughest PC problems, including security, user mobility, and the management of disparate desktop images,” says Kevin Brown, CEO of software firm Kidaro (www.kidaro.com).
The benefit is even greater when an SME is dealing with mobile laptop and unmanaged third-party computers, he adds: “Instead of managing a large number of individual desktops, including unique hardware, OS, and applications, IT can now manage a small number of virtual desktops that can run on any computer.”
