Alternative Technology Signs Distributor Agreement with PlateSpin
Alternative Technology, a leading specialty distributor of thin-client/server-based computing, edge infrastructure, virtualization, and government-approved security solutions, today announced that it has signed a value-added distribution agreement with PlateSpin Ltd., a leading provider of workload optimization and consolidation solutions. Under the agreement, Alternative Technology will promote and distribute PlateSpins patent-pending workload portability technology to its network of 3,000 resellers in the United States and Canada.

This agreement represents a major expansion of Alternative Technologys virtual infrastructure solution strategy, broadening and complementing our current portfolio of VMware virtualization and Citrix-based infrastructure solutions, said Tom Zorn, executive vice president, Alternative Technology. PlateSpin has leading-edge tools that enable VARs and Enterprises to be successful in implementing virtualization strategies. Large enterprises with hundreds or thousands of servers can perform data center analysis, modeling and forecasting that allow them to optimize their physical-to-virtual or virtual-to-physical conversions, and to more effectively manage workloads across their server farms. Small to medium enterprises will see great value from the PlateSpin solutions in planning and implementing server consolidation, hardware migration, server backup, disaster recovery and business continuity.

We are pleased to have Alternative Technology as our newest distributor and are excited about the greater product and sales support they will offer to our VARs across North America," said Mike Sharma, president and chief operating officer, PlateSpin. "Alternative Technology's dedication to the channel coupled with their technology expertise and extensive coverage makes them an excellent fit with PlateSpin as we continue to expand our select VAR network and further penetrate regional markets throughout the United States and Canada.

By breaking the dependency between hardware infrastructure and server software, PlateSpins workload portability technology represents a paradigm shift for the data center. PlateSpins technology decouples workloads (data, applications and operating systems) from the underlying hardware, and automatically streams them to any physical or virtual platform. Enabling the complete interchange of server workloads with a simple drag and drop, PlateSpin automates the migration of the software layer to the servers that best match the needs of the workload all from a single point of control.

Alternative Technologys resellers will now be authorized to sell PlateSpin PowerRecon and PowerConvert.

PowerRecon is a powerful and sophisticated analysis and planning solution that takes the guesswork out of complex server consolidation, disaster recovery, capacity planning, asset management and green data center initiatives. By remotely capturing server resource capacity and workload utilization statistics, PlateSpin PowerRecon ensures that the right server infrastructure has been matched to the right application workload to maximize performance while minimizing hardware cost.

PowerConvert allows organizations to go beyond simple, one-time physical-to-virtual (P2V) workload conversion activities. P2V migrations are a critical component for the successful adoption of virtualization, but to ensure optimal data center efficiency, enterprises need the flexibility to move and rebalance workloads in any direction between physical and virtual hosts physical-to-virtual, virtual-to-physical, physical-to-physical, etc.

This relationship extends PlateSpins distribution in North America, and brings additional value to PlateSpin resellers through Alternative Technologys focused product offering, advanced technical services and top-notch sales support.
