Nivio joins hands with AMD
Nivio, world's first windows based online desktop, announced technology collaboration with AMD to launch virtual desktops for the mass market. The partnership will see AMD invest an undisclosed amount in its research and development and support Nivio's vision of virtual desktop access for a worldwide audience and AMD's drive to extend Internet access to emerging markets.

Speaking to itVARnews, Alok Ohrie, Managing Director, AMD India said, "Our vision of 50x15 i.e. trying to enable 50 percent of the world's population with affordable Internet access and computing opportunities by 2015, is aimed to bridge the digital divide. That is where Nivio comes in with same vision, passion, innovation and customer centric approach. This partnership will help AMD drive the future direction of computing and will be a great enabler for AMD Live customers."

"Nivio's commitment to launch in India is definitely a draw for us and in return for our investment in R & D we also get to support a service that fits perfectly into our continued aim of extending the breadth of access to the Internet," he added.

Sachin Duggal, CEO, Nivio commented, "Nivio aims to evolve the computing experience by hosting a users windows desktop, making it available through any Internet connected device. The technology expertise this collaboration brings will enable us to continue towards our aim of launching the service over the coming months and will help Nivio deliver the best future technology. We are in talks with several ISP providers and are targeting segments like students and cyber cafes and are hopeful that it would see large acceptance among the masses."

The Nivio service has been in development for the past 18 months and is currently in private beta testing mode, where it has gained a positive response from the technology community. The user can download the most up to date software for use anywhere at anytime without having to upgrade their PC.

The service is shortly set to launch in both India and UK where the company believes it could provide millions of people with their first private secure desktop environment. Nivio an online virtual desktop was launched in India on June 15, 2007. Since then it has been providing its users a customised and hassle free computing world.
