InovaWave Introduces VirtualOctane for ESX Server
InovaWave, the leader in virtualization performance software, today announced VirtualOctane for ESX Server, designed specifically to optimize performance of VMware ESX Server environments. VirtualOctane helps organizations overcome performance hurdles to increase the number of virtual machines possible per physical server and virtualize a greater percentage of their applications.

With VMware leading the server virtualization market, InovaWave VirtualOctane for ESX Server will help alleviate the server I/O bottleneck that has constrained application availability, quality and scalability in virtual environments, said Mark Bowker, analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. VirtualOctane also helps reduce the overall cost and improve the efficiency of virtualization by increasing server consolidation ratios and the number of applications, including high-performance applications, that can be virtualized, which in turn provides a greater reduction in hardware requirements.

Fully compatible with all products in the VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 (VI3) Suite, InovaWave VirtualOctane provides a powerful, yet easy-to-use complementary component for ESX Server environments. VirtualOctane leverages an intelligent and adaptive optimization engine to enable greater ROI through improved ESX Server resource utilization and virtualization of high-performance workloads, such as databases and messaging.

  • Intelligent Optimization Engine Improves utilization of hardware resources by leveraging core intelligent, adaptive and predictive optimization engine.
  • Resource Prioritization Ensures optimal performance by dynamically allocating virtual I/O paths for hosted virtual machines.
  • Resource Utilization Optimizes disk I/O operations by intelligently utilizing CPU and memory resources for more balanced and effective resource utilization.
  • Targeted Optimization Enables organizations to designate which virtual machines to optimize on each host server to ensure alignment with overall performance goals.
  • Full VI3 Support Fully supports VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3) environments, including High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), VMotion and Consolidated Backup (VCB).
  • Comprehensive Storage Support Optimization capabilities support iSCSI, SAN, DAS and NFS storage configurations.
  • Optimal Architecture Complements ESX Server and provides an easy-to-use, low overhead, seamless solution for optimizing ESX Server. In addition, VirtualOctane does not require modifications to the guest virtual machines and is operating system agnostic.

Until now, the benefits of virtualization have been limited to a small percentage of the available workloads in the IT infrastructure, and server consolidation ratios have remained well below expectations, said Chris Ostertag, CEO of InovaWave. By raising the bar for virtualization performance, VirtualOctane will accelerate adoption of server virtualization and organizations will be able to realize even greater value from their virtualization investments.

VirtualOctane will be available for beta testing in September and general availability is scheduled for mid-October. Information about VirtualOctane can be found at

Demonstrations at VMworld 2007

InovaWave will provide live demonstrations of VirtualOctane at VMworld 2007 being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, September 11th - 13th. Attendees are encouraged to get a firsthand view of VirtualOctane at the InovaWave booth (No. 739).
