Devon IT Launches Industry’s First Desktop Virtualization Lab
Devon IT, the fastest growing provider of thin client terminals and innovators of the SafeBook thin client notebook, today announced the Desktop Virtualization Lab (DVL) as part if its Server-Desktop Solution Center. The DVL is specifically dedicated to helping companies understand, test and implement virtualized desktop solutions.

In the post-PC era companies from all industries are looking at ways to utilize virtualized and alternative desktop computing, said Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. The DVL is specifically designed to help companies understand the new models that will dramatically change desktop computing.

"The benefits of server-based desktops are compelling and well understood by businesses adopting desktop virtualization," said Dr. Tom Bradicich, IBM Fellow & Vice President, Systems Technology, System x and BladeCenter Servers. "This alternative to the traditional desktop PC provides increased security, centralized management, and adds operational flexibility to desktop computing. The variety of virtual desktop solutions, coupled with Devon IT's DVL, is a potent combination that makes it easy for IT managers to evaluate, assess, and ultimately implement their own virtualized desktop environments."

Customers can use the DVL to understand how desktop virtualization works, and how you can implement any of the following virtualization approaches:

- IBM Virtualized Client Solution (VCS)

- VMware® Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

- Citrix® Dynamic Desktop Initiative (DDI)

The DVL takes an unprecedented step in helping companies and organizations become familiar with these computing methods by allowing customers to test virtualized solutions with their own servers and applications, explained Makoid. This will help IT managers better understand how virtual desktop computing works and how the implementation of thin clients, blades, and virtualization can benefit different computing environments. With our partners IBM, Citrix, CentriServ, and VMware, we are proud to help organizations make a necessary transition into the virtualized post-PC world.

The Server Desktop Solution Center, launched in early 2007, is the industrys first facility where companies can bring their own servers to test and implement server-centric computing environments. Businesses and organizations of any size can send their IT personnel and company servers either physically or virtually to simulate their computing environments. Customers can test Devon IT thin clients, IBM Blade Centers and servers, software from Citrix, and virtualization solutions from VMware, along with products from other server-based computing companies. Industry experts from Devon IT and CentriServ will also offer seminars, classes, and comprehensive solution and integration services to help companies understand and implement server-centric computing environments. The Server Desktop Solution Center is fully-equipped with client workstations, training rooms, conference rooms, and a complete customer-ready datacenter.
