VMware Announces VMworld Europe 2008

With a surprise announcement, VMware said that the company would finally be hosting a VMworld event in Europe - something that people have been requesting for at least the last two years.  Finally, it is a reality, scheduled for next year.  Even more importantly, the venue is going to be at Cannes, France!  With that said, it will be curious to see  the number of attendees who attend THAT show from the US.  Already on the show floor yesterday, I've heard more people express interest in trying to get to Cannes next year than Las Vegas!  I mean come on, it's Cannes?  Who wouldn't want to try and get their company to spring for tickets and accomodations to go there?  The other question is, will this announcement decrease the numbers of attendees or exhibitors at the US show?  The VMworld event has always had a fairly large number of overseas participants, so hopefully that doesn't change.

VMware's announcement:

VMware, Inc., the virtualization leader, today announced the first annual VMworld Europe conference will be held in Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Cannes, France from 26th-28th February 2008.  The event will showcase the continual innovation and thinking that is changing the way that organisations around the world are building, deploying and managing their IT
infrastructures.  It will also provide a platform for visitors to interact with the customers, partners and technologists who are shaping the industry.

VMworld Europe 2008 will follow similar format as the VMworld conference in the US, the world's largest virtualization event, and is expected to attract customers, partners, researchers, academia, press and analysts from around Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The event will also incorporate VMware TSX Europe, the company's annual technical symposium, making it ideal for attendees of all levels of experience in virtualization; from business decision-makers to technical experts and systems architects.

VMworld Europe 2008 will feature:

  • Keynotes from VMware President and CEO Diane Greene, other senior VMware executives and industry thought leaders on the latest trends and developments in virtualization adoption
  • A significant breakout programme including solution tracks, hands-on labs, product and technology demonstrations and specific sessions for partners, developers, press and analysts
  • A Solutions Exchange showcasing new products and technology innovations from the leading players in the virtualization market

In connection with VMworld Europe 2008, VMware will be holding a Partner Day dedicated to educating partners looking to build their business around virtual infrastructure.

"VMworld is the ultimate experience for anyone looking to truly unlock the benefits that virtualization has to offer and learn more from industry gurus, pioneering customers and technology experts," said Mark Stradling, vice president of EMEA.   "We are very excited about bringing VMworld to Europe, and we are looking forward to delivering a line up that visitors will find
varied, educational and inspiring."
