Citrix Summit 08: DataCore Storage Virtualization Solutions Are First 'Citrix Ready' SAN Solutions for Citrix XenServer

DataCore Software Corporation today announced that DataCore SANmelody(TM) and SANsymphony(TM) virtual storage SAN solutions are the first SAN solutions to be verified for Citrix XenServer(TM) in the Citrix Ready(TM) program (

DataCore, the leading provider of hardware independent storage virtualization solutions, is currently validating additional Citrix Ready solutions, including DataCore(TM) storage virtualization with Citrix Provisioning Server(TM) and Citrix XenDesktop(TM), individually and in combination with Citrix XenServer(TM).

"Storage virtualization goes hand-in-hand with server, desktop and application delivery virtualization," said George Teixeira, president and CEO, DataCore Software. "DataCore extends the virtual infrastructure all the way through to your storage, giving your storage the same qualities that Citrix virtualization gives your servers, desktops and applications -- flexibility, simplicity, optimal utilization and ease of administration."

The Citrix Ready program recognizes Citrix partner products that have been validated by Citrix and/or partners to work in Citrix environments, making it simpler for customers to identify solutions that can be used with confidence in Citrix environments.

DataCore solutions convert standard Intel/AMD servers or even virtual machines (VMs) into fully capable storage servers that virtualize disks and serve them over existing networks to application servers. They are simple to operate, take only minutes to install, and cost-effectively optimize, manage and protect data storage and disk space.

Citrix Server Virtualization and DataCore Storage Virtualization Solutions Are Fully Complementary

Server Virtualization with Citrix XenServer(TM). The new Citrix XenServer product line is an enterprise-class platform for managing server virtualization in the datacenter. Based on the high-performance Xen virtualization engine, Citrix XenServer(TM) combines comprehensive server virtualization capabilities with unparalleled scalability, performance and ease-of-use. The new product line ranges from Citrix XenServer Express Edition, an easy-to-use single-server solution available for free download, to the most comprehensive Citrix XenServer Enterprise Edition (formerly XenEnterprise).

Storage Virtualization with DataCore SANmelody and SANsymphony. DataCore virtual SAN storage solutions free storage from the "hard-wired" constraints of physical storage devices, making storage and SAN infrastructures fault tolerant, flexible and virtual. It allows storage to be pooled, shared, served, managed, serviced and protected as a network software service instead of through the laborious manipulation of individual, physical storage devices.

With DataCore, storage becomes completely portable and "floats" across the infrastructure to where it is needed, without moving or reconnecting physical devices one to the other. In combination with Citrix virtualization solutions such as XenServer, it is the virtual storage layer that completes a "Total Enterprise Virtualization" strategy, providing true mobility for virtual servers and desktops, while optimizing disk space utilization, accelerating I/O  performance and providing your storage with the same flexibility, ease of movement, cost savings and ease of administration that only a virtualization solution can provide.

A Winning Combination

"Our production environment is highly demanding, but we have met all our objectives with DataCore SANmelody and Citrix XenServer," said Philippe Ottin, System Manager for Weishardt Group, one of Europe's largest
manufacturers of gelatin used in the food production, life sciences, and other industries. "The combination solution gave us a simple to use, cost effective, and agile virtual infrastructure, in which we can deploy and redeploy virtual machines easily and confidently knowing that SANmelody's high availability virtual disks will follow them wherever they go."
