It is being reported that VMware plans to invest $100 million into India by 2010. And the virtualization giant also intends to double its staff in that country to more than 1,000 employees in the next two years.
The company said the investment would be used to expand its research and development operations. CEO, Diane Greene said that India is one of their fastest growing markets and where they have increasing important system integrator partners.
According to information from SiliconIndia, VMware located the VMware India Development Center in Bangalore in 2004. It is a peer organization to the R&D offices in: Silicon Valley; Cambridge, MA; Broomfield, CO; Sofia, Bulgaria; Aarhus, Denmark; Beijing, China; and London, UK. A second India location is now open in Pune.
"The long-term goal is for India to own one or more product lines (either exclusively or jointly with other VMware R&D sites) where the leadership team will work with Product Management/Alliances to define complete products and own their delivery. The associated CPD, QA, and GSS teams will also be in Bangalore, giving the India team control of its own destiny. The India Development Center works on the ESX Storage Platform and Virtual Infrastructure Solutions, including VMware Virtual Center, VMware Converter, VMware Security Solutions, Storage Management and Disaster Recovery."
