VirtualLogix Delivers VLX Developer v2.0

VirtualLogix™, the Real-Time Virtualization™ company, today announced the availability of VLX Developer v2.0, offering enhanced support for deploying VLX real-time virtualization technology to performance-critical, IntelTM-based systems. Developer v2.0 complements VLX for Network Infrastructure v3.0, also announced today, by enabling architects to quickly create and deploy high-performance virtual platforms. These VLX-based systems offer the traditional cost-savings benefits of virtualization, combined with deterministic support for real-time operating systems (RTOS) as well as their device drivers and application code.

VLX Developer v2.0, built on the ubiquitous EclipseTM open development platform, provides a graphical drag-and-drop interface for configuring VLX-specific hardware and software elements. As many of these options are neither available nor appropriate for virtualization solutions that target enterprise or server applications, the tool's intuitive support for these VLX-specific configuration options is a key requirement. In addition to these new graphical configuration capabilities, Developer's guest OS monitoring capabilities continue to provide graphical CPU utilization and OS context switch displays that are critical to understand and debug the real-time systems virtualized behavior.

VLX Developer v2.0 builds on the existing key features of its current suite including:

  • Configuration: Drag-and-drop configuration of VLX parameters including: per-guest memory allocation and CPU assignment, guest OS scheduling and prioritization, inter-guest communications, virtual memory management unit (MMU) enable/disable, and assignment of platform I/O interfaces to specific guest OS.
  • Build: Configuration-based system build, file preparation and boot-time command line options.
  • Monitor: Evaluate, optimize and qualify system-level performance aspects of virtualized platforms. This includes graphical display and capture of CPU utilization data on a per CPU-core and per guest OS basis, and system OS-dwell time and OS-to-OS context switch for guest operating systems which share a single CPU core.

VirtualLogix will demonstrate VLX Developer at Multicore Expo, booth #31, in Santa Clara, California, April 1-3, 2008 as well as at the Embedded Systems Conference, booth #422, in San Jose, California, April 14-16, 2008.

Pricing and Availability

VLX Developer v2.0 with Intel support is available now for VirtualLogix VLX products and is licensed on an annual per-seat basis. VLX Developer is also included in certain product development license configurations with additional seats available separately.
