Challenging Corporate PCs: VXL Instruments Introduces Fully Featured Thin Client for $229
VXL Instruments, one of the worlds leading providers of thin client solutions, today introduced the Itona TC23xx, setting a new standard of price and performance in a $229 entry-level thin client.

The TC23xx is a fully featured system, with specifications that are superior to any entry-level thin client currently available. The TC23xx includes a powerful 1Ghz VIA C7 processor; 256MB RAM and 32MB Flash RAM; a 32-bit graphics controller; 4 USB 2.0 ports; and support for Linux or Windows® CE.Net operating systems. The Itona TC23xx is Citrix ReadyTM and is available with Citrix® ICA® clients and selected Citrix software pre-installed on the devices.

No other thin client comes close to matching the features of the TC23xx at this price point, said Eric Grayson, vice president of the Americas, VXL Instruments. The TX23xx, along with VXLs other thin client solutions, are poised to help challenge the dominance of the PC as the corporate desktop.

In addition to the TC23xx, VXL also introduced the new Itona TC73xx, designed for desktop virtualization, streaming video and other advanced applications required by power users. The TC73xx includes a 1GHz VIA C7 processor; dual video and DVI support; 10/100/10000 FastLAN; generous Flash & RAM configurations; wireless and Smartcard options; and support for Linux Professional, Windows XPe or Windows CE.Net operating systems.

Compared to corporate PCs, the TC23xx and TC73xx systems are far less expensive and easier to manage, with greater security and reliability. Key benefits include:

  • Increased reliability: The TC23xx and TC73xx feature a fan-less design and have no internal disks or moving parts, greatly increasing reliability.
  • Low TCO: The systems are virtually maintenance-free and are covered by a three-year warranty. Combined with the initial purchase price, this results in a very low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Ease of management: All VXL thin clients include the powerful XLmanage remote management software, making centralized management a breeze.
  • Energy efficiency: With an average power consumption of only 11 watts, the systems are more than 4X more energy efficient than PCs.
  • Enhanced security: Since the systems have no drives, users cannot load unauthorized applications, and the systems are immune to Windows viruses.
