New VMware VI3 Book is Ready to Order and Ship

I wanted to make sure that people knew that the latest book from a couple of my friends, Scott Herold and Mike Laverick, is now out and available for purchase and is shipping.  The book is titled VMware Infrastructure 3: Advanced Technical Design Guide and Advanced Operations Guide

This is Scott's second book, a followup to VMware ESX Server: Advanced Technical Design Guide.  The guys have updated the design guide and have added a new section, an Operations Guide.

According to Mike Laverick on his Web site, RTFM, the book may not be available for sale yet in EMEA, though it looks like you can purchase it from the US and have it shipped across the ocean... for additional shipping costs of course.  :)

Some of you might be wondering why I would mention a "competitor" book since I announced that Steve Beaver, Jase McCarty and I were coming out with our own VMware ESX book (shipping next month, fingers crossed).  Well, this is a tight community.  And the fact that the publishing industry is finally recognizing the power of virtualization is a great thing!  We went through a period of years where we didn't have any written or published help to get through this stuff.  So thankfully, individuals are stepping up try and help educate the masses and get people down the right path to a positive virtualization experience.

And besides, Scott and I always have a lot of fun ribbing each other about the books.  We've been down this road before.  We had "competing" virtualization books the first go round as well.  And yes, I got the email about "We're shipping already" from him this weekend!  ;)  Thanks Scott... We'll ship soon enough!  Haha.

The new book from Herold, Laverick and Oglesby can be purchased on Amazon.  And for the 15,000 people attending VMworld 2008 in Las Vegas, be sure to check out the VMworld Book Store for a copy of this fine book as well as a copy of my book. ;)

Seriously, best of luck to Scott and Mike with the new title.  Writing books like this is an extremely difficult thing to do.  We all have "real jobs" and lives to contend with, and writing a book in your spare time is not an easy thing to do.  Our families will tell you that!

And make sure you keep up to date with Mike's RTFM and Scott's VMGuru Web sites as well.
