VDIworks, a virtual desktop software provider with a long history in centralized computing, today announced that the latest release of VDIworks' Virtual Desktop Platform (VDP), version 1.2, will provide connection brokering and management for the HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) protocol to deliver a high performance virtualized desktop solution to the industry. This integrated offering will allow customers to leverage VDIworks' sophisticated virtual desktop management capabilities and HP's RGS protocol to enable the highest grade visual experience possible in a virtualized environment.
"We're pleased that VDIworks has chosen the HP RGS protocol for the latest release of their Virtual Desktop Platform," said Dan Nordhues, director of product marketing, Desktop Solution Organization, HP. "The combination of HP's high-speed, multimedia enabled RGS and VDIworks' broad management of physical and virtual infrastructure allow the delivery of a PC-parity virtual desktop solution for our customers and supports HP's strategy of making RGS a broadly supported protocol in the virtualized desktop space."
While desktop virtualization solutions have focused primarily on the hypervisor back-end, the end-user experience has not achieved parity with what most users expect from a PC. HP's RGS protocol provides extremely high-speed transmission of multimedia content from a virtual machine to a remote thin client. VDIworks' VDP will now be able to discover RGS-enabled devices and provide connection brokering as well as additional management services for HP hardware running RGS. VDP supports all popular hypervisors, including Microsoft Hyper-V, Virtual Server, Xen and VMware ESX. HP and VDIworks will continue to work together to improve the performance and feature-set of the newly announced solution.
"HP has maintained a reputation for being a leading innovator, and the RGS solution is another chapter in that saga," said Amir Husain, chief technology officer at VDIworks. "When it comes to delivering high-end visual experiences from within a virtual machine, RGS has no parallel. We are thrilled to be a partner and enabler for HP's desktop virtualization solutions."
HP's existing Remote Client Solutions portfolio of desktop virtualization offerings includes thin clients, blade servers, workstations, HP Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and traditional server-based computing. These help business customers dramatically reduce security risks and management and support costs by centralizing computing hardware and sensitive data within data centers.
