RingCube Launches vDesk Enterprise Desktop Virtualization Solution
RingCube Technologies, the leading provider of managed virtual workspace, today announced vDesk, a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that delivers employees, contractors and customers anytime, anywhere access to a personalized desktop environment complete with applications, data and settings.

The demand to be productive outside the traditional office place is growing. Users are now routinely working from home, at customer sites and at a variety of locations while traveling. These people dont want to carry their devices everywhere they go, but they want 24/7 access to their data. This is why users are beginning to demand the ability to take their workspaces offline on any PC, said Leslie Fiering, research vice president, Gartner. Desktop virtualization will transform the future of desktop computing by decoupling users from dependence on a specific computing device and enabling them to recreate their preferred work environment across a variety of system types and locations.

RingCube Technologies delivers enterprise desktop virtualization solutions that can be used to increase user productivity, lower desktop management costs, and eliminate the performance and resource overhead commonly found in legacy virtualization technologies. With the vDesk solution, RingCube now enables customers to rapidly deliver lightweight, high-performance virtual desktops to PCs and portable drives, directly from the network, and from virtualization desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.

How Companies Are Using vDesk

With vDesk, enterprise IT organizations are:

  • Lowering their desktop management costs by automatically provisioning and updating desktops and applications to users in minutes
  • Easily moving desktops to replacement systems in the event of hardware failure
  • Ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery requirements are met using a low cost, instantly available and always updated solution
  • Delivering secure and isolated desktop computing environments to locked down PC users who can not install applications and do not have administration privileges

In addition, by bringing virtualization to the desktop, vDesk can help increase workforce productivity and increase top-line revenue by expanding their service availability to reach more customers. We see desktop virtualization as an enabling technology that will help Southcoast Community bank gain a competitive advantage, deliver better services to our customers, and make our employees more productive. Those factors will ultimately lower our IT costs and improve the customer experience, said Paul Hollen, Southcoast Community Bank EVP and COO. We considered virtual machine based products, but only vDesk could run our desktop environment with the required delivery methods, security and performance we require without introducing additional licensing and support costs.

How vDesk Works

vDesks virtualization technology, with 23 virtualization patents pending, separates the users desktop environment, including applications, data, settings and system resources from the operating system and encapsulates it into a secure container. vDesk virtualizes components of the host Windows operating system without the need to carry a second operating system inside the virtual workspace. IT organizations use the vDesk Administration Server to create and deploy vDesk workspaces, assign security and isolation policies and provision updates to existing workspaces. vDesk provides users with a list of available workspace masters from which users can create their own personalized workspace instances. vDesk has the flexibility to deliver virtual desktops to users wherever they are through a variety of deployment options, including:

  • PC vDesk is stored and runs locally on the users PC
  • Drive vDesk is stored on portable drives such as USB
  • Network vDesk is stored on a network file share and runs locally
  • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) vDesk is stored in the data center and accessed remotely using VDI

Legacy virtualization technologies paved the way for storage and server virtualization. Enterprises are now ready for the next evolution of virtualization technology to help cut desktop management costs, increase mobility and end-user productivity to gain a competitive advantage, said Pete Foley, CEO, RingCube Technologies. vDesk is the first solution in the industry to deliver performance equal to the host PC, provide mobile users the flexibility to take their virtual desktops offline and reduce the costs of virtual desktops; storage, OS licensing and provisioning.

Pricing and Availability

vDesk is available immediately through RingCube. Pricing starts at $200 per user.
