At VMworld 2008, Vizioncore Inc., the market leader in server virtualization management, today announced vConverter 4.0, the most rapid and versatile physical to virtual (P2V) and virtual to virtual (V2V) conversion tool on the market. vConverter 4.0 automates and accelerates conversions to Microsoft, Virtual Iron, VMware and XenServer environments allowing customers to migrate workloads between platforms as part of scheduled conversion projects or for disaster recovery purposes.
vConverter enables rapid and easy conversions without any disruption to the source system during the conversion process. An intuitive GUI allows administrators to convert single or multiple servers simultaneously within just a few seconds of setup. Conversion jobs can also be scheduled for non-peak times to ensure as little disruption as possible, and by combining cutting-edge disk and networking technology with extensive automation of pre- and post-conversion tasks, vConverter can successfully migrate more servers per conversion window than any other technology.
“The benefits of virtualization are now widely accepted, but end-users are not fully informed how they go about moving to a virtual infrastructure,” said Chris Akerberg, President and Chief Operating Officer of Vizioncore. “By giving users a simple and non-disruptive way of bringing their physical servers into the virtual realm, vConverter eases the path to virtualization for organizations which may have previously been concerned about the potential risk or disruption caused by such a transition. This latest version of vConverter sets new standards in levels of speed, automation and reliability of conversion, providing a wealth of new features which make it suitable for all sorts of conversion projects – from one off conversions and P2V jobs for disaster recovery, right through to enterprise-scale migration initiatives.”
New features in vConverter 4.0 include:
- Synchronized Cutover – allows users to test P2V conversion projects before completion, shortening cutover windows and reducing the downtime required during workload migration projects. After an initial synchronization between the source machine and the target virtual machine, the workload can be tested in the new location while the source continues to run, before a final synchronization and cutover is performed.
- Continuous Protection – P2V is increasingly being used for disaster recovery purposes, allowing customers to protect workloads in a cost-effective manner by retaining a virtual backup of a physical machine. New incremental replication technology in vConverter 4.0 allows physical servers to be continuously protected. Only changes to the source data are replicated to the target virtual machine in order to minimize network traffic and allow for more regular replication cycles.
- Automated Remote Cold Migration – vConverter connects to and automatically reboots a source machine into an offline boot environment to conduct conversions at optimal speed. This guarantees 100% data consistency between source and target.
- Task Profiles – save time and resources by storing and re-using pre-defined conversion settings. This feature is particularly useful for large-scale migration projects where users will no longer have to manually define conversion settings for individual servers, but can instead apply set parameters to groups of target servers.
- “Quick Convert” - the easiest and fastest way to perform migrations, allows users to perform lighting fast ad hoc P2V conversions with one click.
Vizioncore vConverter 4.0 will be available in October 2008 in two editions from Vizioncore’s worldwide channel partner network: Server Consolidation for one time conversions; and Disaster Recovery for recurring use. For more information visit www.vizioncore.com/vconverter.html.
