Layered Technologies, Inc. (Layered Tech), a leading worldwide provider of on-demand IT infrastructure, today announced that its recently completed network upgrades further strengthen its ability to handle complex requirements of enterprise-class customers for traditional and virtualization platforms, while simultaneously positioning Layered Tech to effectively manage its rapid growth.
Network investments include expanding its number of carriers so that customers have a superior blend of Internet pathways. Level 3 Communications, Global Crossing and Sprint give Layered Tech’s customers strong overseas access, while SAVVIS, Internap and Time Warner provide U.S. Internet access. Layered Tech also enhanced access between its data centers with 10-gigabit circuits, while hardware upgrades include new Cisco switches in VSS configuration. The upgrades and improvements have resulted in faster, more reliable access for Layered Tech customers.
“Our rapidly expanding customer base is fueling Layered Tech’s network investments whose benefits are particularly attractive to enterprise customers looking for advanced virtualization technologies,” said Jack Finlayson, CEO of Layered Tech. “The network upgrade has been a major initiative since our acquisition of FastServers.Net earlier this year. We will continue to evolve our network to meet our customers’ needs, but we already know that Layered Tech offers the services, capacity, security and redundancy that other data centers and dedicated hosting providers just can’t match.”
The value of Layered Tech’s upgraded network was recently showcased when an enterprise customer, which provides an open-source blog publishing application, wanted to expand its presence into a second Layered Tech data center. Layered Tech was able to deploy 150 servers for the customer in less than a week at its Chicago data center, which was best-suited to handle the significant increase because of its enterprise-grade security and redundancy.
From its upgraded data centers, Layered Tech can now offer its DEFCON managed services to customers of Layered Tech’s Grid Layer® virtual machines; previously the DEFCON services, which mitigate challenges commonly associated with the operations of hosted infrastructure, were available only to dedicated-server clients.
In addition, Layered Tech’s growing international presence resulted in the company adding data centers in Tokyo and Amsterdam, providing overseas customers important local points of presence. This overseas expansion gives Layered Tech the global reach to address hosting requirements of the largest multinational companies.
Customers will continue to reap the benefits of Layered Tech’s ongoing network investments, said Layered Tech CTO Jeremy Suo-Anttila.
“The network upgrades have solidified Layered Tech’s leadership position in both enterprise-class services and virtualization technologies. With our virtual private data centers, Layered Tech can provide customers with private switches, firewalls and load-balancing devices that aren’t available from most data centers or dedicated hosting providers,” Suo-Anttila said. “Layered Tech can build out the infrastructure required by enterprise-class customers, who have highly complex designs. We deliver the platform customers need, whether it’s dedicated servers or a virtual computing environment, and we wrap our flexible and customized managed services around those configurations. These capabilities are uncommon, and Layered Tech is proud to offer them.”
