Tranxition Introduces Desktop Management Solution for Virtual Environments
Tranxition, provider of market-leading user environment and desktop personality management solutions, today announced general availability of LiveManage™ for Virtual Migrations 7.0. LiveManage has been deployed worldwide by companies such as United Airlines, Kaiser Permanente, BAE, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA.) The new seventh generation product builds on LiveManage’s existing ability to preserve, protect and transport desktop personality, adding new capabilities, documented processes, and licensing specifically for virtual desktop implementations – regardless of virtual infrastructure. LiveManage for Virtual Migrations enables automated, intelligent abstraction of all essential user customizations from traditional desktops and migration to new virtual images, transporting what is needed and nothing more.

“When adopting desktop virtualization, many organizations fail to size up what they need in order to get the cost savings they expect, therefore often failing to receive all the benefits that desktop virtualization has to offer,” said Dan Olds, founder and principal analyst at Gabriel Consulting Group. “LiveManage is a solution that reduces user migration time from hours to minutes while decreasing the costs associated with virtual desktop management and low user adoption, allowing organizations to experience greater ROI from desktop virtualization projects.”

LiveManage decreases the cost of managing desktops by securely extracting and transferring the desktop personality which includes application customizations, metadata, templates, connectivity data, custom dictionaries, data files, and customizations beyond those saved in Windows Profiles. With the increasing interest in desktop virtualization, intelligent migration of the user environment from physical to virtual desktops is critical to cost effective implementations and user acceptance.

Even virtual desktop environments can become complex, so for real world scenarios this demands a high degree of flexibility from tools and processes to keep the overall desktop management from also becoming complex. To this end, LiveManage for Virtual Migrations 7.0 supports common virtual desktop scenarios, translation of settings between Windows OS and common application versions, and simple integration with common management frameworks. Tranxition works closely with desktop management solution and service partners such as HP, BMC, FrontRange, ITG, Wyle Information Systems and others to ensure businesses can easily take advantage of existing and custom integrations as well as best practices.

LiveManage for Virtual Migrations is an easy-to-use software solution that benefits organizations by:

  • Cutting Migration Costs by a Factor of 10 – automating and simplifying desktop personality migration LiveManage decreases implementation time and post-migration help desk calls.
  • Enabling IT to Optimize Desktops – untangling and abstracting end user customization away from the OS and applications so new virtual desktops can be template based and personalized.
  • Increasing User Acceptance – ensuring all essential configurations and customizations are captured and migrated, LiveManage also translates settings from XP/Office 2003 to Vista/Office 2007 as well as other common business applications.
  • Increasing User Efficiency providing a familiar working platform for the end user with their personal desktop environment consistent and readily available.
  • Decreasing IT Spending – providing an extremely affordable solution for maximized ROI for VDI and hosted virtual desktops projects.

“Organizations can run into several challenges while implementing virtual desktop solutions, and based on our extensive experience having deployed millions of seats, we know that transferring the user environment can be a major pain point. With the desktop virtualization market expected to triple in 2009, this problem is only going to increase,” said Amy Hodler, director of product management at Tranxition. “LiveManage for Virtual Migrations eliminates this pain point and allows organizations to decrease migration costs and increase employee productivity – helping them experience the ROI of desktop virtualization faster than ever before.”
