This video is part of a series of videos designed to help you get the most out of your Hyper9 experience.
Facets provide a quick and easy way to traverse the multitude of attribute options available, with creating a complex search query by providing a mechanism to segment the data collected by Hyper9 and partition the domain of possible results by desired attribute values.
It can be a powerful way to navigate a collection of managed objects without knowing the exact query or result set desired, kind of like navigating on a Web based, e-commerce shopping model, such as Amazon.com or BestBuy.com. You can use the attributes of what you are shopping for to narrow the list of available options. So instead of focusing on the type, size or manufacturer of a television like in the shopping model, you are narrowing results based on the attributes of a virtual machine.
The current taxonomy of facets includes Operating Systems, Virtual Hardware, Hypervisor, and Management.
Quickly find the total number of virtual machines running Windows Server 2003 or Red Hat Enterprise in your environment, and then focus on that list of virtual machines. You can then further filter down this list by focusing on a certain number of virtual CPUs, amount of memory, or by a particular VirtualCenter environment under management to quickly get at the virtual machine you desire.
