I-O Corporation First to Provide Schools, Training Centers with Thin Client Support for PC and Mac Desktop Virtualization
The company that has become synonymous with fully-integrated thin clients and connectivity support for the IBM host environment has raised the bar again by providing new support for both the PC Windows environment and Macintosh. I-O Corporation, a leading provider of connectivity solutions for more than 32 years, is forging a new horizon with the ability to provide thin client support for the Macintosh. I-O Corp has announced a partnership with Aqua Connect that allows I-O’s ProEdge thin clients to connect to a Mac Leopard server to run Mac applications as well as providing traditional support for PC/Windows applications.

I-O’s thin client technology provides small, solid-state workstations for school labs or corporate training environments for as little as half the price of a comparable PC or Macintosh lab. As a full-on integrator, I-O Corporation is able to help schools or organizations achieve the cost savings of thin client technology from the point of cost analysis, to trying the solution out in advance via a remote RDP connection, to a fully integrated solution.

I-O’s ProEdge thin clients carry the following advantages:

  • No moving parts means significantly lower numbers of potential points of failure; increasing the reliability of the entire computing infrastructure.
  • They consume 1/16th the power of traditional PCs. Because the products are solid state, the need for cooling and air conditioning is diminished as well.

  • ProEdge protects security and streamlines management by preventing students from changing default configuration settings.
  • I-O can support basic multimedia with its higher-end thin clients and the proper server operating system in place.

Additionally, with today’s announcement, I-O Corporation is able to help schools make best use of their existing resources by allowing the same thin client workstations to support PC desktop applications, Macintosh desktop applications or both. Administrators can use either server to centrally manage the desktops and applications. Through a simple icon, students can connect to either working environment they need.
