Lakeside Software announces it will be showing its SysTrack® Virtual Machine Planner, the industry’s most powerful tool suite for helping organizations migrate to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) at VMworld 2009.
“SysTrack VMP shows you a comprehensive, real-world picture of the activity taking place across your current desktop computing environment,” states Mike Schumacher, Chief Technical Officer at Lakeside Software. “With our tool, you will not only have the most accurate assessment information to plan and implement a successful virtual desktop platform, but it will be packaged in a report format that provides easy-to-understand answers to the various stakeholders involved in the process.”
SysTrack VMP identifies good and bad candidates for VDI based on many criteria, including resource demands (CPU, memory, disk, network), graphics use, mobility, latency, private devices (USB, printers, etc) and other considerations. It helps you plan for capacity by dealing with mixed target hardware -- automatically benchmarking the current environment and projecting loads onto target platforms.
The virtualization modeling and predictive analysis feature constructs models based on measured probability, statistical analysis, overhead projection and calculation, and real user and application behaviors. It automatically accounts for hypervisor type, desktop model (pooled, assigned, etc), security model, user desired model confidence and VM state management.
For migration planning, SysTrack VMP automatically constructs a POC plan that documents current environmental concerns, suggested clients, provisioning plan and projected POC results -- allowing validation of POC results through objective criteria to determine POC success/failure.
“Without question the hardest information for organizations to obtain in the VDI planning process is accurate user and application behavior,” continued Schumacher. “Our tool analyzes real usage of applications by users and then automatically constructs pool layouts to minimize application costs. It delivers everything necessary to optimize pool design.”
SysTrack VMP also provides: storage throughput and space planning – using a detailed probability model, power planning – projecting power demand and potential energy saving, and firewall and latency analysis.
“VDI is a game-changer that significantly drives down the cost of ownership,” concluded Schumacher. “Our goal is make it easier for more people to pursue VDI and get from where they are today to a virtual desktop environment that optimizes savings opportunities available in their unique computing environments.”
