Pillar Data Systems Couples Application Aware Storage with Oracle VM Storage Connect Framework

Today at Oracle OpenWorld, Pillar Data Systems announced support for Oracle® VM Storage Connect framework. Pillar will be providing a plug-in for the storage discovery and provisioning Application Programming Interface (API).

Due to Pillar Axiom’s high storage utilization rates and energy efficient architecture, it is the ideal storage platform for a high performance, virtualized Oracle environment, with ease of management - reducing the total cost of an Oracle deployment.

“Our customers can see marked improvement in their Oracle database performance by deploying storage infrastructure that links tightly with applications,” said Wim Coekaerts, Vice President Linux and Virtualization Engineering, Oracle. “Pillar’s latest integration efforts support Oracle’s mission to provide customers with an industry-leading option for efficient virtualized environments - as part of our common goal to provide better value to customers.”

The Axiom was designed to differentiate storage system resources based on application priority, what Pillar calls Application-Aware Storage. That capability helps enhance performance with mission-critical Oracle environments. “This latest integration effort further optimizes the combination of Axiom and Oracle.” said Monica Kumar, Senior Director, Linux, Virtualization and Open Source Marketing, Oracle.

“Virtualization allows customers to reduce costs and provide a Green IT infrastructure. We’re very pleased we will offer our customers integration with the Oracle VM Storage Connect framework so they will be able to further reduce the cost and complexity of their IT infrastructures,” said Bob Maness, VP of Worldwide Marketing and Channel Sales, Pillar Data Systems. “The Axiom can provide resources, in terms of CPU, Cache and Capacity, that match different workload requirements of each individual Virtual Machine making it well suited for a virtual infrastructure.”

As a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork, Pillar maintains a broad set of Oracle certifications to ensure that joint customers will be able to take advantage of new developments, while benefiting from the Pillar Axiom storage system for industry-leading utilization, performance, and availability rates.

In addition to demonstrating its patented QoS and Application-Aware technology at booth # 321 at Oracle OpenWorld this week. Pillar will also be doing performance comparisons between SSD and Fibre Channel to illustrate its Stop Storage Waste initiative.
