Catbird, the pioneer in leading-edge security and compliance for virtual, physical and cloud networks, today announced that its award-winning vSecurity™ is certified compatible with the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) standard, giving it double honors: the first and only virtualization security product to achieve CVE® certification and the first and only hybrid Assessment and IDS product to achieve CVE® certification.
“Our customers expect the highest level of compliance for their virtualized data centers. The CVE standard is the most comprehensive and authoritative source of data for enterprise security vulnerabilities, a key component for ensuring compliance,” said Michael Berman, CISSP, Catbird CTO. “Achieving both of these certifications bolsters Catbird’s vSecurity’s position as the gold standard for enterprise virtualization security and compliance. We are very pleased to join this elite group of fewer than 100 products and services to achieve this mark of compatibility.”
A publicly available and free list of standardized identifiers for common computer vulnerabilities and exposures, the CVE® standard uses common nomenclature to identify software vulnerabilities and flaws, making it easier to share vulnerability and security exposure data across separate network security databases and tools, and provides a baseline for evaluating the coverage of an organization’s security tools.
In embracing CVE, Catbird is able to deliver a measureable security posture to its customers that allows enterprises and security professionals to feel confident that their compliance and security requirements are met. The CVE database now contains more than 38,000 entries, each corresponding to a unique and publicly known security issue. As an international security consortium, experts in government, industry and academia around the world have adopted the CVE standard as the authoritative source for data about critical software flaws.
CVE is funded by the Department of Homeland Security and managed by the non-profit MITRE Corporation. In addition to maintaining the database, the CVE Initiative awards certification to intrusion and vulnerability detection systems that meet the compatibility standard.
Catbird vSecurity is the industry’s first and only comprehensive security and compliance solution to protect virtual, physical and cloud infrastructures, delivering best-practice security for hypervisors, virtual machines, and policy/regulatory compliance. The award-winning solution has been recognized for two consecutive years with a finalist award in the Security and Virtualization category at the Best of VMWorld. In 2009, Catbird’s vSecurity Cloud Edition became the first security product to win in a Best of VMWorld finalist award in the Cloud Computing Technologies category.
