BeyondTrust Extends Privilege Delegation to the Cloud

BeyondTrust, the global leader in privilege delegation and authorization management, today announced it has extended PowerBroker to cover critical security and compliance requirements for enterprises and service providers transitioning to cloud-based architectures.

“BeyondTrust continues to see increasing demand for PowerBroker deployments with both public and private cloud infrastructures,” said John Mutch, president and CEO of BeyondTrust. “Our unique position as the global leader of privilege delegation in physical and virtual environments gives us a strong foundation from which to leverage in becoming a de facto standard for security and compliance in the virtual and cloud data centers.”

Fueled by the cost effectiveness of virtual server architectures, investment in public and private cloud computing infrastructure is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years. IDC recently predicted that in addition to public cloud-based server shipments, which are expected to grow to $718 million in 2014 up from $582 million in 2009, private cloud-based server shipments are expected to grow to an astounding $11.8 billion from $7.8 billion during the same time frame.

“As our customers continue to migrate their data centers to a cloud-centric architecture, systems and data security have become paramount,” said Håkan Andersson, CEO of Sweden-based Cloud Solutions AB, a Gold-level reseller in the BeyondTrust Privileged Partner Program (P3). “PowerBroker is becoming a standard for our customers as it provides critical and essential security and compliance for any cloud computing deployment.”

Organizations migrating towards a cloud infrastructure encounter specific challenges that can only be met with privileged delegation:

  • Private Clouds –private cloud deployments are challenged to drive a lower cost of delivery, primarily through virtualization, while implementing administrative access controls and detailed compliance reporting that can be tied back to the corporation as well as individual business units to meet security and compliance requirements.
  • Public Clouds - public cloud providers are challenged to ensure their hosted infrastructure integrity is secure for both internal and external administrative access and privileged delegation to the level that is required by the regulatory bodies of its customers.

PowerBroker provides a comprehensive access control and monitoring solution that enables key data center and cloud-related regulatory compliance initiatives, specifically PCI, SAS 70 and ISO 27001, by controlling and monitoring systems access through the secure delegation of IT privileges. PowerBroker for Virtualization and PowerBroker for Unix and Linux servers offer transparent privilege delegation, security and reporting from host to guest - protecting organizations and their data from the intentional, accidental and indirect misuse of privileges.
