Paylocity Puts Trust in Vizioncore vReplicator for Fast Disaster Recovery

Vizioncore Inc., the market leader in virtualization data protection and management solutions, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Quest Software, Inc., announced today that Paylocity has rolled out vReplicator to effectively facilitate disaster recovery (DR) with automatic replication. Paylocity chose vReplicator from Vizioncore as a quick and cost-effective virtual machine (VM) replication solution to support its business continuity objectives.

Paylocity, a payroll software solutions provider that has made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for five years running, has a highly virtualized environment. The company lacked the DR capabilities necessary for such a robust setting, and due to budgeting and time constraints, needed a DR solution that could be up and running quickly. “We looked at a lot of solutions when we started our DR initiative,” said Brian Boos, IT manager for Illinois-based Paylocity. “Nothing that was powerful or comprehensive enough for our virtual environment was affordable until we found Vizioncore. With vReplicator, we gained the DR security to meet our needs."

Paylocity was able to quickly implement vReplicator, which replicates virtual machines with minimal configuration. It can be used on any storage platform and can replicate dissimilar hardware, so no duplicate infrastructure from Paylocity was needed at the DR site.

vReplicator, installed with the vSphere solution from VMware, scans each VM at the data block level, captures only data changes that have been made since the last replication, generates an image of the VM and condenses the image to shrink the file size. As a result, replication time, bandwidth and storage needs are reduced by catching only modifications and passing over unused blocks.

Paylocity schedules vReplicator to automatically run twice a day enabling Paylocity to regularly replicate its VMs. vReplicator has the capacity to restore complete systems without requiring extra support responsibilities. “We have many other applications using our network, so we appreciate that vReplicator saves us bandwidth,” said Boos. “Taking snapshots and only capturing changes is a very good approach.”

Time to recovery following outages has dramatically decreased, with Paylocity now able to quickly access complete VMs with current information from its DR site. Replication is convenient and the images Paylocity receives are much more comprehensive than when they were only backing up and manually replicating data. “In our DR testing, the systems that were replicated with vReplicator were always backed up and consistently recovered,” said Boos.

All of these benefits have motivated Paylocity to expand the implementation to cover more of its virtual infrastructure. “We now have our systems back up in minutes instead of hours allowing us to meet our aggressive recovery time and recovery point goals. vReplicator was the only product that met our needs and fit within our budget,” added Boos.

“vReplicator provides Paylocity with a reliable disaster recovery solution that allows them to stay focused on running their business,” said Carl Eberling, vice president and general manager of the Virtualization and Monitoring Business Unit for Quest Software. “Our customers choose vReplicator thanks to its simplicity and granularity when performing VM replication, but they also benefit from a multitude of efficiency and cost gains. By choosing our comprehensive, affordable recovery solution, Paylocity has made a smart investment that will match all its future recovery needs.”
