Veeam Software Releases Major Update to Award-Winning Veeam ONE Solution for VMware Management

Veeam Software, innovative provider of VMware data protection, disaster recovery and VMware management solutions for virtual datacenter environments, today released version 5.0 of Veeam Monitor, one of the key components of the award-winning Veeam ONE Solution for VMware monitoring and management, making it even easier for organizations to optimize the performance, configuration and utilization of their growing virtual environments.

With more than 35,000 installations worldwide, Veeam Monitor is the industry standard for VMware monitoring. New Veeam Monitor 5.0 provides built-in intelligence, improved scalability with the capacity to monitor more than 200 ESX(i) hosts from a single installation, and full support for VMware vSphere 4.1 with over 100 new performance metrics.

“With more than 125 built-in alerts and a comprehensive knowledge base, Veeam Monitor 5.0 equips operators and VMware administrators with the information and know-how they need to find and fix problems quickly and maximize the performance of their mission-critical virtual infrastructure,” explained Ratmir Timashev, Veeam President and CEO. “Unlike some VMware monitors, Veeam Monitor doesn’t require a complicated monitoring framework or agents, so it’s easy to deploy and maintain, making it a powerful and practical solution for virtualization teams. And because it’s verified by VMware as VMware Ready™, customers can deploy it with confidence.”

Key enhancements in Veeam Monitor 5.0 include:

  • Built-in intelligence: A comprehensive knowledge base explains all important events, pre-defined alerts and possible causes. It also presents suggested resolutions and links to sources of additional information, making it easy for VMware administrators to monitor and manage the health of the infrastructure.
  • Scalability: Monitor 5.0 features improved scalability with the capacity to monitor several hundred ESX(i) hosts and thousands of virtual machines (VMs) from a single installation. Beta customers tested Monitor 5.0 with more than 200 hosts and 2,500 VMs and experienced outstanding results.
  • More than 100 new metrics: Monitor 5.0 fully leverages VMware vSphere 4.1 to provide more than 100 new metrics, including monitoring of NFS datastores.
  • Dashboards: Monitor 5.0 includes a dashboard for each object in the virtual infrastructure tree, proving an at-a-glance view of the most useful information for any object, with easy drilldown to more detailed information, as required.
  • Other new features include monitoring of logical disk space, snapshot monitoring and new management reports.

“Being a global ship-owning company, we face some very special challenges when it comes to managing our IT infrastructure,” explained Christian Mohn, Network Manager for Seatrans AS. “Veeam Monitor 5.0 will help us move the infrastructure on our vessels to the next level, making it easier to manage and report status on our installations. As we continue to grow, the ability to scale the monitoring system to our needs is essential, and the testing we have done with Veeam Monitor 5.0 confirms that scalability will not be a problem. In addition, Veeam Monitor 5.0 gives us the insight we need, without manually connecting to the vessels using time-consuming, remote administrative tools over high-latency satellite WANs. Since the data is gathered automatically and stored centrally, we can quickly look at the performance of our entire fleet and all our data centers from a single point of view.”

“Though the modern data center has rapidly adopted server virtualization to improve operational efficiency, cut capital costs and ease management, many IT organizations still continue to use monitoring and reporting approaches that were designed for physical environments,” said Cameron Haight, Research Vice President at Gartner. “Organizations need monitoring and reporting solutions that can take into account the nuances that virtualization introduces.”

Veeam Monitor is part of the Veeam ONE Solution for VMware management, which provides a single solution for VMware:

  • Monitoring
  • Capacity planning
  • Change management
  • Reporting and chargeback

Pricing and Availability

Veeam Monitor 5.0 and Veeam Monitor Plus 5.0 are available immediately with North American MSRP unchanged at $250 per CPU socket and $550 per CPU socket respectively. A free version of Veeam Monitor is also available.
