Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced the availability of the Wyse R10L, a high-performance thin client that boasts an unmatched level of security.
Wyse R10L is built from two of the most advanced technology components available in the cloud client computing space: the R10L hardware and the next generation of Wyse's best-selling platform, Wyse ThinOS 7.0. Wyse ThinOS is a purpose-built advanced thin client operating system optimized to combine security, performance and manageability in ways not achievable with other operating systems. Wyse ThinOS is the only thin client operating system with a unique and unpublished API, delivering built-in protection from viruses, malicious software and all forms of malware.
Like the Wyse Xenith zero client launched at Citrix Synergy™ in May, the R10L uses Wyse’s new Zero™ engine cloud software and adds Wyse ThinOS multiprotocol capability to make it ideal for Citrix HDX™ environments that need additional flexibility and performance. With Wyse ThinOS, the R10L comes out of the box, starts in seconds, updates and configures itself automatically, and delivers IT managers with simple, scalable administration to suit their organization's needs; all without the need for separate management software. The R10L can be installed by anyone in an organization, and no technical knowledge is needed. Wyse ThinOS makes time-consuming maintenance tasks such as software and firmware updates for thousands of units as easy as dragging and dropping them once onto a secure central server (ftp, http and https).
Wyse R10L hardware includes a superscalar 1.5GHz CPU for heavy server-rendered multimedia and VoIP scenarios, and supports dual high-resolution digital displays in multiple configurations, including support for rotation, and "L-shaped" modes, enabling a new set of advanced applications and uses for financial services and trading environments. There are also options for integrated wireless networking so the unit can be placed nearly anywhere.
"Wyse Xenith has been a huge success with our customers, and some have asked to use that same technology for advanced virtualization applications requiring dual digital displays, L-shaped display configurations, and enhanced support for higher-end voice, data, and video content," according to Hector Angulo, Product Manager at Wyse Technology. "With the availability of Wyse R10L, our customers get another option for high-performance virtual computing with Citrix environments."
Laurus International, a Wyse partner specializing in call center technologies, tested and is implementing the R10L in its call center technology platform worldwide. "We wanted a simple, secure, VoIP enabled solution for the $300 billion dollar call center industry which today is highly dependent upon traditional PC environments," commented Rudy Ganna, President & CEO at Laurus. "The Wyse R10L supports our requirements and eliminates the security, virus, software and hardware problems inherent in traditional PC deployments. The R10L provides us a reliable, high-performing call center solution capable of handling simultaneous VoIP and data manipulation out of the box with unprecedented security," Ganna added.
"The combination of Wyse's new R10L hardware, the new features of ThinOS 7.0, and Citrix XenDesktop offers customers a high performance, secure and manageable solution for today's IT decision-maker," according to Natalie Lambert, director of product marketing, XenDesktop product group at Citrix. "Office workers are tired of the loss of productivity when PCs break down, and at the same time, IT struggles to keep up with the management and security requirements for PCs. Virtual desktops with powerful, yet locked down, endpoints like the Wyse R10L are making great inroads into today's forward-thinking businesses."
"When it comes to desktop devices, security concerns still ranks at or near the top of what ails IT," according to Bob O'Donnell, Vice President at IDC. "Any solution that delivers on or better than existing PC performance levels while also mitigating security concerns is likely to have a welcome reception."
"Wyse R10L delivers the simplicity, flexibility and security required to expand enterprise computing capacity while streamlining IT maintenance and management," said Scott Miller, director of business development for virtualization at World Wide Technology. "As a leader in delivering and supporting the most advanced virtualization and cloud computing technologies available today, WWT looks forward to offering Wyse ThinOS solutions to our customers, partners and prospects."
"With businesses struggling under the weight of PC management and the near constant threat of malware attacks, the promise of a solution that mitigates desktop management while taking security concerns off the table is a welcome one," according to Mike Smith, Director, Government & Key Accounts at Allcom Networks Pty Ltd in Australia. "The Wyse R10L has all the makings of a formidable solution."
