Quest Software, Inc.
today announced that vWorkspace
7.2 Beta 2 is now publically available for download at the vWorkspace
Community. Version 7.2 delivers extended enterprise readiness
through advanced reporting and logging; simplified setup and
configuration; and PowerShell cmdlets for automation and integration
with third party systems. This latest edition of vWorkspace, plus the
entire Quest line of virtual server, desktop, and private cloud
automation solutions are on display this week at VMworld Europe in the
Bella Center, Oct. 12 – 14 in booths 21 and 22.
“Version 7.2 provides IT administrators with tools that simplify virtual
desktop installation and provisioning, while expanding management
capabilities across the virtual infrastructure,” said Jon Rolls, vice
president, product management, Quest Desktop Virtualization Group. “By
adding more extensive management through PowerShell, and advanced
logging and reporting to vWorkspace, Quest has improved what is already
a great fit for larger installations.”
vWorkspace 7.2 reporting and logging features include historical
tracking of Administrative Actions, a key capability for administrators
of larger desktop virtualization deployments. A new database, report
viewer, and report templates for SQL Reporting Services and Quest TOAD
for SQL provide comprehensive information across the vWorkspace
infrastructure, while simplifying administration and management.
Administrators will find future report templates, as well as other
downloads, on the new vWorkspace Community.
The addition of the vWorkspace Quickstart Wizard, in conjunction with an
entirely new vWorkspace installer, dramatically reduces time to value
for customers. New customers can be up and running with a fully
functional vWorkspace environment in less than 10 minutes, while
existing customers can leverage the new capabilities of the vWorkspace
7.2 setup to automate complex installations.
PowerShell is a great enabler of automation and integration with
third-party access portals and management interfaces, and is popular
among Managed Service Providers delivering Desktops and Applications as
a Service. The first set of PowerShell cmdlets for vWorkspace, now
publicly available from the vWorkspace Community, gives customers the
ability to script and automate key areas in vWorkspace. PowerShell in
vWorkspace also enables integration with outside management tools,
further adding to the readiness of vWorkspace’s for enterprise
deployment.
In addition to exhibiting at VMworld Europe, two Quest experts will be
providing insights into current issues and trends impacting the
virtualization industry:
Michel Roth, principal product architect, Quest’s Desktop
Virtualization Group
