vRanger is Back! Simpler, Faster and More Affordable

Quest Software, Inc. has expanded its popular line of vRanger virtual server backup and recovery solutions with the release of vRanger Standard Edition 5.0. Ideal for SMBs (Small and Mid-Size Businesses), vRanger Standard provides essential backup and recovery capabilities in an integrated solution that is simpler, faster, and more affordable than competitive products. The entire Quest line of virtual server, desktop and private cloud solutions are on display this week at VMworld Europe in the Bella Center, Oct. 12 – 14 in booths 21 and 22.

“vRanger 5 includes all the technical features I need for fast, reliable VM backup and recovery,” said Ingo Nowak, CEO of Köller+Nowak and a vRanger 5.0 beta customer. “What Quest has done with this latest version – increasing performance and adding capabilities while simplifying the user experience – is phenomenal.”

Using patent-pending Active Block Mapping (ABM) technology, vRanger Standard significantly accelerates data collection and recovery by removing inactive blocks and eliminating the need to write to zero blocks. vRanger Standard utilizes Change Block Tracking (CBT) with ABM to greatly reduce the size of backup images, resulting in a faster, more efficient virtual server backup and recovery experience. Plus, vRanger Standard offers superior value with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of only $399 per CPU.

“The addition of vRanger Standard to my portfolio of virtualization products enables me to target new market opportunities, especially in the SMB space,” said Anders Stålnacke, infrastructure specialist with Wincore Solutions, a Quest VAR and vRanger 5.0 beta customer. “The lower price point improves our competitive position, as does the number of cross-sell opportunities that come with the Quest family of virtualization management solutions.”

vRanger Standard delivers quick and easy backup and recovery of virtualized infrastructures by enabling users to:

  • Back up and restore multiple VMs at the same time – with no limits.
  • Complete backup jobs faster – distributed processing makes backup fast and recovery direct, with no impact on host operations – with no need to send VM data through a single, central server.
  • Recover multiple VMs at the same time, without having to access the recovery wizard for each and every VM.
  • Browse vCenter to see which VMs have been protected, when, and which need protection now.
  • Configure new backup jobs – which automatically refresh to stay current with new VMs as they are added in the environment.
  • Protect all types of guest data with a single VM backup.
  • Restore any type of data from a single backup image – including individual files, databases, and full guest systems.

"The net-new with vRanger Standard is an entirely new offering that provides all the powerful capabilities SMB users need, but one that our installed base will equate to the original vRanger because of its ease of use, functionality and price point," said Carl Eberling, vice president and general manager, Virtualization Management, Quest Software. "vRanger is back!"
