In Episode 08 of the Virtual Vibe, Hyper9 speaks with Chris Chipman, a virtualization administrator at Homeaway.com.
Homeaway has been a VMware customer for the past two years, moving to VMware from Virtual Iron in order to get more Enterprise level support for their environment. With nearly 350 server-class virtual machines under management today, Homeaway purchased Hyper9 to help solve some of their VMware management issues. Chipman uses Hyper9 to make sense of and report on a number of statistics in his environment. CPU Ready, CPU Wait Time and Disk I/O are some of the key statistics that he wants to have quick and easy access to, without having to manually assemble them.
With the 2.6 release of Hyper9, Chipman is making great use of the new portal integration feature. All of the Hyper9 charts and widgets that he uses or all of the information that he needs to share with others in the company such as the Ops Team or his management team is pushed out to his Intranet for consumption by all of these internal audience members. And because Hyper9 is so customizable, Chipman was able to easily create a new, custom performance page that shows real-time performance stats, pulling graphs from Hyper9 to show all the important VMware statistics and then easily present them to his boss.
He also talks about making use of Hyper9 business labels and business views to organize information and how it enabled him to put that information online as well -- offering things like pie charts that show which groups are using the most resources such as CPU, memory, or disk I/O, which departments or groups are the top resource consumers, which virtual machines are consuming those resources, and even shows where those machines live and what their dependencies are in the environment.
Come listen to virtualization administrator Chris Chipman as he talks about his VMware environment at Homeaway.com, and how he uses Hyper9 to make his work life easier by saving him a huge amount of time on a weekly basis.
Find out what other features in Hyper9 Chris Chipman said he just "couldn't live without."
