Veeam Adds Support for HP Operations Manager on Linux to nworks Smart Plug-in for VMware

The Veeam nworks Smart Plug-In (SPI) for VMware is now supported in HP Operations Manager on Linux (OML). Veeam Software, innovative provider of VMware data protection, disaster recovery and VMware management solutions for virtual datacenter environments, today announced that a release candidate of version 5.6 of the nworks SPI is available for download.

“We’re seeing a great deal of interest in HP Operations Manager (OM) on Linux, both from new customers and from existing customers who want to migrate from other Operations Manager platforms,” explained Alec King, Director of Product Management at Veeam Software. “In response to the needs of our customers for support of the complete portfolio of OM versions, we’re very pleased to partner with HP in this strategic direction.”

The nworks SPI provides distributed monitoring and management of the VMware infrastructure (VMware vSphere 4 and VI3) and has been certified by both VMware and HP. VMware performance, events, configuration, state and topology are integrated directly into the Operations Manager console. This gives enterprises a common view across physical and virtual infrastructures, while preserving IT policies and practices already built on Operations Manager. The addition of OML support means that the nworks SPI is available for all HP Operations Manager platforms – OM on Linux, OM on Unix and OM on Microsoft Windows. HP enterprise reporting solutions such as OVPI are also supported.

The nworks SPI 5.6 also provides monitoring and reporting for new metrics, including:

  • Memory compression to monitor the latest enhancement to VMware’s memory over-commit technology in vCenter Server 4.1
  • Disk queue latency to allow increased visibility of resource bottlenecks in ESX storage subsystems
  • Snapshot age monitoring to alert the IT team to forgotten snapshots that are consuming valuable storage space and degrading performance of virtual machines

The nworks SPI is a key component of the award-winning Veeam ONE Solution for VMware management. Veeam ONE provides a single solution to optimize the performance, configuration and utilization of the VMware infrastructure through VMware monitoring, capacity planning, change management and reporting. It is available in three editions to accommodate each customer’s specific monitoring environment. The nworks SPI Plus is the Veeam ONE solution for customers using HP Operations Manager.

As a leading IT service management consultancy in Norway and Sweden, Manag-E Nordic works with many HP Operations Manager customers integrating VMware management into their operations processes. “More and more customers are interested in running the management server component on Linux rather than Unix because of the platform standardization and flexibility Linux offers,” explained Kristian Jensen, CEO for Manag-E Nordic. “Our customers will be happy to now be able to take advantage of the rich functionality and scalability of the nworks SPI, and run it on the HP OM Linux platform.”

Pricing and Availability
A release candidate of the nworks SPI 5.6 is available immediately; general availability is expected within 60 days. MSRP is €607 ($690) per CPU socket for the nworks SPI and €748 ($850) per CPU socket for the nworks SPI Plus.
