Eucalyptus Systems Partners with Red Hat to Deliver Open Cloud Solutions
Eucalyptus Systems, creators of the Eucalyptus private cloud platform, today announced a partnership with Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, to offer the freedom of cross-cloud compatibility and expanded customer choice in the cloud. The two companies are collaborating to provide Eucalyptus support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Eucalyptus compatibility with the Apache Deltacloud application programming interface (API). These technology integrations will enable enterprises to easily transform Red Hat virtualized environments into a secure Eucalyptus private cloud, while increasing cloud interoperability and customer freedom through Deltacloud. End users will gain the ability to run applications and workloads on Eucalyptus or on public clouds supported by Deltacloud.

“Red Hat is the leading vendor of open source solutions for the enterprise, and its customers are making strategic decisions to turn their virtualized environments into private clouds,” said Rich Wolski, chief technology officer at Eucalyptus Systems. “Eucalyptus support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization enables these enterprises to leverage their virtualized environments as Eucalyptus private clouds with the flexibility to share workloads with any other Deltacloud-compatible clouds. This partnership underscores Eucalyptus’ commitment to organizations that are building powerful, flexible private and hybrid clouds using existing enterprise IT infrastructure and software.”

Red Hat delivers the infrastructure needed for reliable, agile, and cost-effective cloud computing with comprehensive solutions for public and private clouds. With Eucalyptus support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization users will be able to benefit from additional agility, efficiency and security for their cloud deployments.

"Portability and flexibility are cornerstones of a future-proof enterprise cloud. We are pleased to collaborate with Eucalyptus to offer our joint customers solutions to enable success in planning, deploying and managing their cloud deployments,” said Mike Evans, vice president, Business Development, at Red Hat. “Collaboration around technologies like Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Deltacloud are examples of how Red Hat and its partners are focused on a truly open approach to cloud computing and choice for customers."

Eucalyptus helps organizations reduce costs and increase business agility by turning their virtualized data center resources into secure, massively scalable private or hybrid clouds. With Eucalyptus, customers can make more efficient use of their computing resources, increase productivity and deploy new applications faster, while protecting sensitive data and reducing capital expenditures. Eucalyptus support for the Apache Deltacloud API extends its interoperability to the ecosystem of clouds compatible with Deltacloud, alongside Eucalyptus’ continued support for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) API.

The partnership between Red Hat and Eucalyptus Systems comes at a time of strong growth in the adoption of cloud computing, with enterprises looking to improve the efficiency, agility and cost-effectiveness of their IT systems. Industry analyst firm The 451 Group predicts that the marketplace for cloud computing will grow from $8.7bn in revenue in 2010 to $16.7bn by 2013. Moreover, in a customer survey by Yankee Group, two-thirds of the IT decision makers said they prefer the private/internal cloud computing model over public or hybrid clouds.
