Vyatta, the leader in software-based networking for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures, and Yunteq, a provider of software to build and operate policy-driven, automated and cost-efficient infrastructure clouds, today announced a joint solution for accelerating the deployment of cloud infrastructures.
The combination of Yunteq’s YunController™ software and the Vyatta Network OS virtual routing and security capabilities makes it dramatically easier for enterprises and cloud providers to create and configure multitenant, multi-tiered clouds on-demand, including delegating control over sophisticated network security policies for complete resource isolation and secure remote access to their customers and users.
“We are using the joint Vyatta and Yunteq solution to automate the provisioning of cloud compute resources including enterprise-grade per-customer network security,” said Jon Greaves, Chief Technology Officer at Carpathia, a leading provider of cloud and managed hosting services. “The benefits of moving from static hardware-based networking to dynamic auto-provisioned networking allows us to address the complex security needs of our customers while reducing our operational costs.”
With Vyatta’s software-based network operating system and the YunController software, enterprises and cloud providers can rapidly create cloud instances and configure network security policies to isolate each customer and each application in a cloud—all without impacting any other cloud tenant or application. The combined solution means that organizations can set up cloud instances on-demand in minutes, as opposed to the weeks or months that hardware-based solutions require, while maintaining the comprehensive security strategies of any secure enterprise architecture. Vyatta virtual machines offers private and public cloud architects complete routing, firewall, intrusion prevention, VPN and more that can be managed remotely by partner applications such as Yunteq’s YunController or third party management platforms via the Vyatta remote access API.
“Vyatta’s network security complements our existing policy switched network isolation and anti-spoofing features by providing full customization of firewall, intrusion prevention, and VPN,” said Alok Rishi, Chief Technology Officer at Yunteq. “By instantiating Vyatta appliances from templates, customers can easily add customized security and access to their multi-tier cloud applications. Additionally, cloud administrators and operators can create libraries of templates that are preconfigured according to policy. This expands the reach of our solution by enhancing our auto-provisioning capabilities to accommodate the security needs of enterprise applications.”
“For companies to obtain the full benefits of cloud computing, we must remove cost and complexity from the entire application stack, including the network. The Vyatta Network OS virtual machines (XenServer, VMware and KVM) have been available for over four years treating networking as an application, not another hardware device,” said Tom McCafferty, VP of Marketing at Vyatta. “Yunteq’s ability to deliver its customers fully customizable, enterprise-level infrastructure control makes them a perfect partner to demonstrate the ease of configuring complex multitenant, n-tier security scenarios in the cloud. The combination of utility licensing and on-demand provisioning of networks that Yunteq and Vyatta deliver is an excellent example of the real benefits of building a public or private cloud.”
