AppSense Names Vice Presidents of Marketing and Sales for United States

AppSense, the leading provider of user virtualization solutions, today announced it has expanded its executive management team in the U.S. and hired David Burton as vice president of marketing and Michael Nicosia as vice president of sales in the U.S. Based in the Bay Area, Burton and Nicosia have over 20 years of experience each in their respective fields and have successful track records in driving company growth. Burton joins AppSense’s global corporate marketing team and will lead its efforts in the U.S. territory, driving all aspects including new opportunity generation and the rapid expansion of the channel program. Nicosia will be responsible for the sales organization within the U.S.

With deep expertise in software marketing, Burton has a proven track record in transforming new products into market-leading products, building and enabling productive channels and establishing strategic relationships with major technology vendors. Prior to joining AppSense, Burton was the VP of marketing and business development at AlgoSec, Inc., a provider of network security solutions, where he significantly increased the opportunity pipeline in North America and revamped the AlgoSec worldwide channel program that has been recognized with industry awards. Prior to AlgoSec, Burton held senior marketing roles at Check Point Software Technologies, NetContinuum and Symantec.

“As enterprises are finally beginning to understand the importance of the user in the desktop environment, AppSense has the opportunity to take full advantage of the resulting market growth in the United States,” said Burton. “I joined the company because I believe that the user virtualization technology AppSense provides is a quintessential element not only to the desktop but also will be crucial to the way people interact with technology overall. Prior to joining AppSense, Nicosia was part of the leadership team for the Citrix Online Division (COL), where he was responsible for building and growing the field sales organization into the enterprise market. During his two-year tenure at COL, Nicosia doubled the field sales personnel and revenue and was instrumental in creating a new sales methodology that led to the success of selling to Fortune 1000 companies. Previously, Nicosia was the president of Barry Rhein & Associates, a sales consulting and training company targeting Fortune 1000 companies. Throughout his career he has also held sales positions at Liquid Engine, Datasweep, Informatica, PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards and HP.

“AppSense has 130 percent year over year growth in the US and intends to double the number of employees over the next 18 months. Sales obviously must play a vital role in this expansion,” said Nicosia. “AppSense has already shown great market traction and built a large customer base, and I look forward to further increasing the number of customers and expanding into vertical markets. As long as organizations have end-users, there will always be a need for user virtualization.”
