SC Magazine (Australia) Names VMinformer as Finalist in Innovation Category of 2011 Awards
VMinformer, a pioneer in compliance, security and auditing for virtual environments, has been named as a finalist in the Innovation category of the 2011 SC Magazine (Australia) Awards. Finalists in the Innovation category have been recognised as putting into practice a project, individual or team, that has changed the traditional practice of IT security.

VMinformer delivers an efficient mechanism to audit virtualised infrastructure. It can be used both across a whole infrastructure or a client domain whilst maintaining the integrity of the virtual computing platform at all times. Users are able to load, check, audit and report quickly and accurately on just about any virtualised attribute.

Uniquely, VMinformer provides visibility into the security posture of any virtual environment. It brings focus to the issues and provides remediation advice. This allows organisations using virtual computing to differentiate their services by demonstrating that their policies and procedures are enforced.

As virtualisation has been increasingly adopted, the challenge has been for existing monitoring technologies, which were designed for physical devices, to report accurately in a virtualised environment. The lack of visibility into the controls and settings of a virtualised environment is the same problem from corporate IT to hosting providers. Until now, it has been prohibitively expensive to run thorough checks. However, VMinformer can audit thousands of settings accurately in a matter of minutes.

VMinformer takes a holistic view through the hypervisor of virtual machines, their hosts, the administration layer, supporting databases and storage rather than just, auditing and assessing virtual machines as ‘virtualised physical devices’, without consideration for the hypervisor, and therefore missing important controls.

Commenting on their nomination as a finalist in the SC Awards, John Reeman, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, VMinformer, said, “We are honoured and thrilled to be a finalist in the awards’ Innovation category. As a recent newcomer into the Australian market, it is very rewarding to be recognised for providing a security solution for virtualised environments, that traditional security solutions are not equipped to handle. As virtual computing is the computing platform of the future, we look forward to expanding our business across Australia.”

Winners of the 2011 SC Magazine (Australia) awards will be announced at the AusCERT2011 Gala Dinner on the Gold Coast on 17 May 2011. For further information, visit:
