Leostream Partners with Red Hat to Provide High Scalability and Performance for Virtual Desktop Infrastructures

Leostream Corporation, a leading developer of virtual hosted desktop software, today announced that it will provide full support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops within the Leostream Connection Broker. The combined solution provides enterprises with the high scalability, security and performance of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor and the high-performance SPICE protocol, along with the manageability, flexibility and scalability of the Leostream Connection Broker for a truly enterprise-class virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) with a multi-media desktop experience.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops comprises a suite of components that enable enterprises to centrally manage, provision and monitor Microsoft® Windows and Linux® virtual desktops. The Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager functions as the centralized management console, providing capabilities such as live migration, high availability and image management. As a Red Hat Ready ISV partner, Leostream integrates directly with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops, using the REST API for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager. The REST API provides the crucial functionality to allow Leostream to catalog, manage, assign and connect to virtual desktops hosted in Red Hat using the high-performance SPICE protocol.

With Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization integration, the Leostream Connection Broker enables IT managers to maximize the value of existing IT investments while implementing or transitioning to new virtualization technologies. The Connection Broker integrates easily with existing clients, back-end systems and network infrastructure with no changes to essential data center systems, such as authentication services and SSL VPNs. Once integrated, the Connection Broker provides a flexible set of policies for exact implementation of business rules for system administrators, users and machines.

“Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops is a desktop virtualization solution that increases the security, manageability and agility of enterprise desktop deployments,” said Navin Thadani, senior director, Virtualization Business at Red Hat. “The highly scalable and reliable Leostream Connection Broker is a good fit with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization deployments, and we look forward to working with Leostream to enable further enterprise adoption of virtual desktop infrastructures.”

“Leostream has long been recognized as the leader in providing enterprises with a vendor-neutral Connection Broker that easily integrates disparate systems into a cohesive, robust VDI,” said Michael Palin, CEO of Leostream. “Our partnership with Red Hat continues our practice of allowing enterprises to choose the best technologies to reach their business goals and end-user requirements. The strength of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and the SPICE protocol are invaluable as the virtualization market grows and more organizations require enterprise-class solutions and a rich multi-media experience.”
