Red Hat Achieves Industry-Leading Virtualization Results with HP

Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced it has set a record-breaking SPECvirt_sc2010 benchmark virtualization performance result of 1820 @114 VMs (18.8 tiles) on the HP ProLiant BL620c G7 blade server. Red Hat and HP claimed leadership in 2-socket and blade server virtualization performance setting a new standard in virtualization efficiency and consolidation.

This result demonstrates a 33 percent performance advantage compared to the nearest competitive 2-socket servers result.

This benchmark was achieved on a single HP ProLiant BL620c G7 server with an Intel Xeon E7-2780 2.4GHz processor running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 with Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM). The benchmark measures the end-to-end performance of all system components including the hardware, virtualization platform, the virtualized guest operating system and application software. The industry-leading results highlight how the ProLiant BL620c G7 blade server running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux KVM offers a superior virtualization platform for enterprise environments.

“The combination of the industry-leading performance of HP Proliant running the KVM-based hypervisor, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and the rich management features of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization allow our customers to deploy a more cost-effective infrastructure, where they can see significant gains in performance, scalability and virtualization density,” said Jim Totton, vice president and general manager, Platform Business at Red Hat. “Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization with KVM continues to deliver industry-leading performance and scalability. This benchmark result highlights the benefits offered by Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization on HP deployments.”

“Our clients require blade servers that are optimized for high performance in virtualized environments,” said Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager, Industry Standard Servers and Software (ISS) at HP. “Achieving the highest 2-socket result to date in the SPECvirt benchmark with the HP ProLiant BL620c G7 server blades combined with KVM as part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization enables our joint clients to achieve the highest levels of virtualization performance.”
