Like Xenith, Wyse Xenith Pro fundamentally changes the user experience and economics of desktop computing for office-based workers. Wyse Xenith Pro completely eliminates many of the management and security issues associated with traditional client devices, while ensuring a high-definition HDX user experience, further lowering the barriers for mainstream adoption of desktop virtualization.
Combined with Citrix XenDesktop, the Wyse Xenith Pro delivers an unprecedented combination of simplicity, performance and security for office-based workers.
Wyse Xenith Pro requires no local configuration or management, has virtually no attack surface for malware, auto-discovers XenDesktop, and instantly launches a full Windows desktop. For the first time, IT decision-makers will not have to make tradeoffs in endpoint simplicity, security and end user performance. The new Wyse Xenith manager software tightly integrates key flexibility and longevity benefits for customers.
"The ongoing conflict between desktop management and end-user performance is over," said Tarkan Maner, President and CEO at Wyse Technology. "Wyse Xenith Pro provides IT departments with a level of performance found in high-end PCs, but with none of the security or management challenges inherent in personal computers. Combine these benefits with the fact that this zero client will last 7-8 years as opposed to 2-3 for a PC and this product changes the economics of business computing."
"The introduction of Wyse Xenith at Citrix Synergy 2010 was a game-changer and the advances made in Wyse Xenith Pro will extend significant benefits to our joint customers," according to Gordon Payne, senior vice president and general manager, Desktop Division at Citrix. "Zero clients provide a high-performance option for organizations delivering virtual desktops to office workers. The combination of the Xenith Zero Client and Citrix XenDesktop with HDX technology gives these users an unparalleled virtual desktop user experience that will help speed adoption of desktop virtualization across the enterprise.”
One organization currently using Wyse Xenith in conjunction with Citrix XenDesktop is Seattle Children's Hospital. In early 2010 the hospital's IT staff began to make plans for a major PC refresh they decided to try something different. Namely, a new infrastructure using Citrix XenDesktop and Wyse Xenith zero clients.
After examining thin client products from multiple vendors, Seattle Children's contacted Wyse and described exactly what they needed. "I didn't want a thin client that forced me to continue to maintain an OS out in the client environment. I wanted to get rid of patch Tuesdays. And I didn't want to have to pay for an OS license for the endpoint and for the virtual desktop on the server. The decision to buy was made very quickly after we saw the Wyse Xenith. It does exactly what we want, and only what we want. We don't have to trim out stuff we don't want or need. We evaluated for less than two weeks and then we purchased 3,000 of them."
Wyse Xenith Pro Benefits
Wyse Xenith Pro is the high-performance, high-connectivity zero client – going beyond anything previously offered in a zero client. In addition to the powerful features already incorporated into Wyse Xenith, Xenith Pro also offers:
• Twice the processing power for Citrix HDX to deliver dazzling display of multimedia and Flash, even unified communications
• Support for dual high-resolution digital displays, with rotation.
• Unparalleled connectivity with 2 DVI, 6 USB and 2 serial ports so everything connects
According to Ian Song, Senior Research Analyst with IDC, "As more firms begin full-scale rollouts, IDC expects an increasing percentage to deploy new thin client endpoints. All told, IDC estimates that the worldwide thin client market itself will grow from 3.8 million units in 2010 to 8.3 million units in 2015, with revenues increasing from $1.3 billion to $2.2 billion during that same time period."
The benefits of Wyse Xenith Pro that are already incorporated into Wyse Xenith include:
• Zero delays. Because there is no operating system, boot time is instantaneous so users are never waiting for access to their desktop.
• Zero management. Because there is no operating system, Wyse Xenith does not need to be configured prior to use or updated with the latest operating system patches.
• Zero viruses. Malware is designed to attack operating systems and applications. Since Wyse Xenith has no operating system or applications, the attack surface for malware is virtually eliminated.
• (Almost) zero energy use. Wyse Xenith consumes only 6.7 watts of electricity in full operation, saving $70 - $150 per year per worker in energy costs over a typical 200 watt PC. The more powerful Wyse Xenith Pro consumes XX watts.
• Zero compromise user experience. Wyse Xenith has native support for Citrix HDX. Workers receive a high definition user experience including webcam functionality each time they access their virtual desktop.
• Simple Plug-n-Display with Citrix HDX. Out-of-the-box, Wyse Xenith works with, and is updated automatically from XenDesktop 5, delivering the rich HDX experience, with automatic support for new HDX innovations.
