Virtualization Author, Entrepreneur and Industry Thought Leader David Marshall Joins Virtual Bridges

Virtual Bridges welcomes David Marshall, a virtualization veteran and owner of the oldest independent virtualization and cloud news site, VMblog.com. In his new role as senior product marketing manager and social media strategist, Marshall will lead Virtual Bridges’ community development efforts, helping to educate the market and increase adoption of today’s powerful VDI Gen2 solutions. Unlike first generation desktop virtualization, VDI Gen2 combines online, offline and remote VDI under a single management interface, allowing organizations to finally generate returns from their VDI initiatives.

For more than a decade, Marshall has been a driving force in virtualization, transforming server virtualization from a niche technology to a mainstream platform. His experience includes launching four virtualization start-ups, three of which were acquired; authoring two popular server virtualization books; and educating millions of readers through his commentary in well-known publications such as InfoWorld, TechTarget and Virtual Strategy Magazine. Marshall is also a two-time recipient of the VMware vExpert distinction.

“For too long, vendors have gotten away with unfulfilled promises about the potential of VDI, leaving the community with too many questions. David will be instrumental in bringing this group together, building relationships and interacting with end users to deliver true ROI,” said Jim Curtin, CEO of Virtual Bridges. “I’m thrilled to have David on the team and look forward to taking what he did for server virtualization and applying it to the desktop space. His previous experience and passion will add incredible value for our customers and partners.”

Marshall brings more than 15 years of IT marketing and online community-building expertise to Virtual Bridges. Most recently, he was a senior manager of strategy at SolarWinds, working on the company’s thwack community. He joined SolarWinds through the acquisition of Hyper9, a virtualization management company Marshall co-founded in 2007. Marshall’s experience also includes co-inventing numerous virtualization technologies at Surgient, a virtualization and cloud industry pioneer that was acquired by Quest Software.

“The desktop virtualization industry is maturing quickly and with second generation solutions, companies are finally able to achieve the ROI they’ve long been promised,” said Marshall. “I’m thrilled to work with an innovative company like Virtual Bridges and eager to jump right in to engage with customers, develop best practices and showcase the benefits of VDI Gen2.”

Virtual Bridges has set a new standard for desktop virtualization by offering the industry’s only VDI Gen2 solution. With Virtual Bridges VERDE, VDI moves beyond the data center and LAN-bound scenarios to deliver value to off-line users, branch users and server-hosted users, all from the same management interface. The company was recently named to the Virtualization 100 list by CRN Magazine and was recognized as a “Cool Vendor” in Personal Computing by Gartner and an MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Innovation Showcase finalist.
