Fermilab Chooses Veeam Backup & Replication for Disaster Recovery

Veeam Software, renowned for innovative data protection and virtual infrastructure management solutions, has been awarded a contract by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) to replace its existing virtualization backup and replication solutions with Veeam’s 2-in-1 product: Veeam Backup & Replication. Fermilab is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics.

Veeam Backup & Replication provides easy-to-use, cost-effective and comprehensive image-based data protection designed specifically for virtual environments. It is used with more than 1.5 million virtual machines (VMs) worldwide and is one component of Veeam Management Suite Plus, which Fermilab purchased for its virtualized server environment.

“We are so pleased Fermilab chose Veeam to automate processes in its virtualized environment,” said Dan Smith, Director of Federal Sales for Veeam Software. “Fermilab will focus on Veeam Backup & Replication first, enabling IT administrators to recover an entire VM or any individual object from any application or file system—all from the same image-level backup. There are no agents to manage, no need to babysit backup jobs, and now they can automatically verify the recoverability of every backup. Soon Fermilab will begin using the other components of Veeam Management Suite—for planning and documentation, monitoring and alerting, business categorization and file management—enabling complete control of the virtual infrastructure.”
