ThinPrint, the leader in virtual desktop processes to enable accessing, viewing, printing and taking action on business documents, today announced general availability of the ThinPrint Engine 8.6, a new version of the company's flagship enterprise cloud print solution. The ThinPrint Engine 8.6 offers enhanced printing functionality, consistently powerful printing performance, enterprise printing accountability and increased enterprise mobility. Version 8.6 helps organizations of all sizes save costs, better utilize printers and simplify workflows while empowering enterprise end-users to print from mobile devices - including tablets.
"Delivering a positive user experience has been the driving force behind the development of the ThinPrint Engine 8.6," said Charlotte Künzell, COO and CIO of ThinPrint AG. "The new version is a complete and easy-to-use solution that offers cost savings, simplifies and improves the overall IT and business processes and answers the growing demand for enterprise mobility, especially relevant with the continued success of the iPad."
The new ThinPrint Engine 8.6 delivers benefits in the following four areas:
Enhanced Printing Functionality
Highly anticipated by ThinPrint users, the 8.6 version combines the benefits of the ThinPrint Engine with finishing options such as stapling, hole punching, binding or printing several pages per sheet. This major improvement eliminates the need to decide between optimized printing and the use of features of increasingly popular MFPs. The finishing options can be used with dedicated print servers and local print servers.
The new VirtualCopy feature allows printing to up to five printers with one click. Many workflows in logistics, production, order processing etc. require more than one printout of the same document on different paper, in different print quality or in different locations. VirtualCopy feature saves time, decreases costs, and margin of error and improves productivity. Combined with a PDF writer, VirtualCopy can even be used for proper archiving of documents.
Lastly, the 8.6 version delivers the most comfortable and simple interface for the end users to date. By using a universal dialog window, users need to only learn one dialog to configure and print on any printer.
Powerful Performance
As additional cloud-based services grow in popularity, it is critical to conserve bandwidth without compromising quality. Building on the speed and performance of the previous version, the new SpeedCache feature makes ThinPrint Engine 8.6 even faster. By caching the repetitive visual elements of a print
job such as logos, it improves print time by an additional 50%. This eliminates the load on network bandwidth and further increases print speed to continue to improve the user experience. In addition, users can now individually control the compression rates of their documents within a range predefined by an administrator. Printing web pages without images such as advertisements etc. significantly reduces costs with less toner, paper and time required.
This valuable update to the technology known as NextGen V-Layer, offers advanced features and optimized printing while retaining the many benefits of print server architecture such as centralized administration, driver handling and removing the print processing load from application and end point devices.
Enterprise Printing Accountability
Often overlooked, printing remains one of the most expensive information technology processes. At no extra cost or effort, the new Tracking Report Engine feature allows organizations to easily and quickly take back control over the printing process and the associated costs. The improved interface displays compression rates and the duration of a print job. In addition, templates can be created for each printer with the individual toner and paper costs. With these and many other functions, the Tracking Report Engine provides decision makers with in-depth information on current printing costs, trends and saving potentials.
Enterprise Mobility
The use of mobile devices, especially iPads and smartphones, in enterprise environments continues to gain in popularity. This creates a challenge for IT departments as they struggle to integrate these devices with existing applications and infrastructure.
A new feature, Print-to-Cloud, enables mobile printing for virtual desktop environment users to print with a Cortado Workplace or Cortado Corporate Server account to any available printer on any network, both inside and outside the corporate environment, directly from their iPad or other mobile device.
Print-to-Cloud is the cloud printing solution for Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, VMware View and Microsoft RDS as well as standard PCs connecting to the ThinPrint Engine 8.6. It is based on the Virtual Desktop Processes (VDP) technology developed by ThinPrint's mobile division Cortado. The VDP technology transfers vital desktop functions to mobile devices using a display-optimized approach. It is available via the Cortado Workplace application and the private cloud solution Cortado Corporate Server for iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.
