BitDefender announces comprehensive security solution for virtualised environments
BitDefender, an award-winning provider of innovative security solutions, has announced its new solution, Security for Virtualized Environments by BitDefender at VMWold 2011. The product is a comprehensive security solution for virtualised datacentres, integrating VMware vShield to protect Windows servers and desktops, as well as Linux and Solaris systems.

To address the growing business challenge of securing virtualised systems, BitDefender Security for Virtualized Environments offers key benefits including reduced system demands with increased threat protection.

Defends VMware environments and any other virtualization technology. When installed in VMware environments, Security for Virtualized Environments by BitDefender takes advantage of VMware vShield Endpoint. The solution architecture also defends Linux and Solaris systems, and environments powered by any system virtualisation technology.

Centralised scanning functions. Using unique product architecture, scanning functions are centralised and duplicated on a hardened Linux-based virtual appliance. This allows the solution to reduce system demand associated with updates, management and scanning. Centralised scanning also eliminates issues with boot time security gaps.

Number-one-ranked security technology. All BitDefender solutions include B-HAVE, a patent-pending technology which analyses the behavior of potentially malicious code inside a virtual machine, eliminating false positives and significantly increasing detection rates for new and unknown malware. BitDefender received a Virus Bulletin VB100 award with the highest final score in February 2011 for its malware detection capabilities, and the technology has been ranked number one in the last two AV-TEST Product Reviews protection against e-threats in 2011.

Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefender chief technology officer, commented, “Security for Virtualized Environments by BitDefender will launch later this year, and we’re delighted to reveal details of the product at VMworld 2011. As organisations increase consolidation ratios, security products that have been designed specifically to address the challenges encountered in virtual environments are playing a critical role. The architecture of Security for Virtualized Environments by BitDefender allows organisations to maximise the return on investment that is realised in their datacentre. Combining features key to securing virtualised environments with our award-winning detection technology, Security for Virtualized Environments by BitDefender offers a very strong solution for medium to large enterprises.”

Parag Patel, Vice President, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware said: “VMware is excited to support the integration of BitDefender technology and VMware technology. The combined virtualisation and security expertise of VMware and BitDefender will present tremendous value to our customers.”
