New V-locity 3 Virtual Platform Disk Optimizer Released

Diskeeper Corporation announced the release of new V-locity 3 virtual platform disk optimizer for VMware. V-locity 3 delivers invisible background optimization to give maximum I/O performance on virtual servers.

V-locity 3 now has full integration with VMware ESXi as well as existing support for other platforms such as ESX, and Microsoft Hyper-V. Other developments include V-Aware technology which detects external resource usage from other virtual machines on the virtual platform and eliminates resource contention that would otherwise exist on the same Host Server. New CogniSAN technology detects external resource usage within a shared storage system, such as a SAN, and allows for transparent optimization by never competing for resources utilized by other VMs over the same storage infrastructure. CogniSAN does this without intruding in any way into SAN-layer operations. Lastly is the new automatic zeroing of free space. This powerful engine zeroes out unused data blocks on virtual disks and makes virtual disk compaction easy.

“The biggest benefits I see are space reclamation and the I/O improvement. And when the defrag process was required it was optimized for the virtual environment. We would look to add V-locity to any new virtual hosts and VMs.” – Tom Berchenbriter, IT Director, Family Environmental

“A major concern with virtual guest operating systems in a virtualized environment is the possible resource contention introduced as each virtual guest operates independently of the others. With respect to storage, V-locity 3 virtual platform disk optimizer mitigates over-utilization.” – Bill Moller, RainWorxV-locity 3 is like a virtual doctor that eliminates many of the chronic pains servers experience: I/O bottlenecks, slow VMs, slow migration, resource conflicts, wasted storage space, slow backup speeds and many more.

Key Benefits:

    • Faster VM and host I/O throughput
    • Increased VM density
    • Increased platform reliability
    • Eliminated resource contention
    • Optimized VM resource usage within a shared storage system
    • Increased hardware life
    • Lowered operating costs
    • All done fully automatic and transparently

New Features:

V-Aware detects external resource usage from other virtual machines on the virtual platform and eliminates resource contention that would otherwise exist on the same Host Server.

CogniSAN detects external resource usage within a shared storage system, such as a SAN, and allows for transparent optimization by never competing for resources utilized by other VMs over the same storage infrastructure. Important: CogniSAN does this without intruding in any way into SAN-layer operations.

Automatic zeroing of free space. This powerful engine zeroes out unused data blocks on virtual disks and makes virtual disk compaction easy. It occurs online and automatically. Performing a storage migration on your virtual platform can then reclaim unused free space, improving VM Density and energy efficiency.

Special Virtual Disk Auto Detection. Allows each V-locity 3 Guest to conform its optimization settings to the type of virtual disk/features the VM is using, such as dynamic/thin disks and linked clones, for maximum performance.

Components and User Requirements:

Consists of two core components: V-locity 3 Guest installs on all Windows virtual machines. V-locity 3 Host Agent installs on any Windows virtual machine over VMware ESX/ESXi, or directly on the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor. Host requires Windows 2008 (R2) server with Hyper-V role. VMware: ESX and ESXi server versions 4.0 or later. Guest supports the following OS’s: Windows XP (requires SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 (or R2).

V-locity 3 is designed to enormously improve the performance and efficiency of all VMware ESX/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms automatically, intelligently and transparently. For further information, please visit http://www.v-locity.com/ or call 800-829-6468.
