RES Software, the proven leader in dynamic desktop solutions, today at Citrix Synergy announced the addition of RES Automation Manager 2012 to its RES Dynamic Desktop Studio product suite. Automation Manager 2012 provides organizations with centralized management to better automate daily tasks. It offers IT a simple interface for targeting and provisioning multiple resources for dynamic desktop environments. Dynamic Desktop Studio, which includes RES Workspace Manager and the latest version of Automation Manager, improves the Windows experience with simplified management and context aware services supported by a highly automated infrastructure fabric, and a user-provisioned self-service catalog.
Today’s IT administrators are tasked with doing more with less while managing increasingly complex environments of users, working scenarios, security models and application services. As a result, environments now require the automation of tasks to address new levels of complexity. Automation Manager automates tasks beyond the traditional command line to bridge client, datacenter, physical, virtual and cloud services through centrally managed, relationship-oriented tasks and run books. In addition, it provides lifecycle management to IT resources and reduces help desk calls and desk-side visits by providing an IT service catalog that automatically delivers services to end users.
“The cost savings and reliability that we’ve seen from Automation Manager is tremendous, and we now consider it a major part of what keeps our organization running on a daily basis,” said James Elmer, EMEA IT Manager of Kennedys international law firm. “Our success with Automation Manager led us to also deploy Workspace Manager to improve how we manage our users. Now that we are using the entire RES Dynamic Desktop Studio, we are able to effectively manage our users personalization and configuration and automate tasks in our complex IT environment. Now our IT staff can focus on other mission-critical objectives.”
“It is becoming increasingly important for IT to better manage services across physical, virtual and cloud environments,” said Bob Janssen, CTO and Co-founder of RES Software. “The aim of Dynamic Desktop Studio is to provide users access to the right information on their chosen device, so they can be most productive, wherever they choose to work. The combination of Workspace Manager and Automation Manager makes this a reality in organizations, even as IT faces new challenges like Windows 7 deployments, desktop virtualization projects or hosted client experiences.”
Building on the robust platform of Automation Manager 2011, Automation Manager 2012 enhances existing capabilities and adds new features for customers, including:
- Cross platform management support (including Red Hat, SUSE and AIX)
- Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager integration
- Scalability and performance improvements, including native 64-bit support
- Further support for multi-tenancy infrastructure, assisting systems integrators with Desktop-as-a-Service initiatives
- Launch window support, aiding risk mitigation by limiting what can be managed during working hours
- Agent, team and evaluator relationship enhancements. This allows for running a query and then automatically performing an action based on the outcome
- Advanced granularity for security permissions, helping achieve compliance and regulatory management
In addition to Automation Manager 2012, Dynamic Desktop Studio also features key enhancements from the latest release of Workspace Manager 2011. These enhancements help make common configuration choices when deploying the solution in an organization’s IT environment, providing a step-by-step guided approach for building personalized user workspaces.
Dynamic Desktop Studio offers composition and personalization, advanced administration, and security and performance modules of Workspace Manager. These capabilities are coupled with the task automation, resource provisioning and service orchestration modules of RES Automation Manager 2012 to provide organizations with a robust offering for full control and management of an IT environment. RES Software works with an organization’s current infrastructure regardless of application delivery, operating system, or hardware needs — even in a hybrid environment.
Automation Manager 2012 is the latest enhancement to the RES Software product portfolio. RES also recently launched Workspace Manager Express, a free edition of its flagship Workspace Manager product offering organizations a foundation for managing the composition and personalization that make up a user workspace.
