Virtualization Startup Leverages Social Media to Benefit Toys for Tots

What a great cause and a great campaign!  VMblog is proud to help spread this message during the holiday season.

To spread some extra holiday cheer, Xangati announced #VirtualTweet4Tots, the first-of-its-kind social media holiday giving campaign to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. As part of the campaign, Xangati has already pledged to donate up to 250 toys – one toy for each single tweet sent that includes the hashtags: #virtualtweet4tots and #virtualwishlist.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for people to give to a worthy cause – as simple as typing 140 characters on a keyboard or mobile device,” said Alan Robin, CEO of Xangati. “Xangati has a lot of followers in the virtualization industry, and we are hoping to maximize our Twitter connections and the generosity of that community to accomplish something that everyone can support – delivering a new toy to a less fortunate child. I can’t think of anything in the world more rewarding than giving a gift to a child in need.”

#VirtualTweet4Tots – How It Works

Xangati’s social media giving campaign provides an effortless way for people to contribute to Toys for Tots. The campaign has also tapped into the company’s extensive relationships within the virtualization community to increase participation and interest. Xangati executives and employees are active tweeps with thousands of followers on Twitter – a social media tool that is widely used within the virtualization industry by technology managers, bloggers, reporters, analysts and vendors.

Participating is easy. Anyone with a Twitter account simply needs to send a tweet that includes both of the following hashtags -- #virtualtweet4tots and #virtualwishlist. In addition, the tweet must include a #virtualwishlist item for 2012. For example:

“We hope that our VirtualTweet4Tots campaign will represent a new type of corporate giving – showing that smaller companies can make a difference within their communities through creative and innovative usages of social media and by partnering with non-profit organizations such as Toys for Tots,” Robin added.

For the last 64 years, the Marine Toys for Tots Program has delivered a message of hope to less fortunate children through the simple act of providing a new toy. In 2010, Marines distributed 16.7 million donated toys to more than 7.2 million children.
