Breakthrough Technology Group Taps Former CitiGroup VP Senior Engineer as Chief Technical Officer and Director of Virtualization

Breakthrough Technology Group (BTG), a leading cloud, managed services IT and telecomm solutions provider, today announced that it has hired Adam T. Shapiro as Chief Technology Officer and Managing Director of BTG’s Virtualization Practice.

Prior to joining BTG, Adam served as Vice President and Senior Engineer for Citigroup Client Infrastructure Engineering.

Adam architected the company’s data center automation as well as engineered the worldwide deployment of Citigroup’s virtualization initiative, deploying collaboration tools and streaming resources such as Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, AppSense, VMware View, Liquidware Stratusphere, and Microsoft SharePoint.

As a result of Adam’s decade-long leadership, Citigroup now utilizes one of the world's largest virtual computing environments.

BTG CEO and Founder, Jeff Kaplan, noted that, “We are elated to have Adam lead our technical team as he brings extensive real world experience from one of the largest financial institutions in the world in deploying many of the leading edge technologies we utilize in our Managed Practice. Adam’s experience in deploying Virtualization and VDI will be crucial to ensuring BTG’s market leadership.

Adam will be responsible for all aspects of Architecture and Operations including Design, Deploy and Management as it relates to VDI (both Citrix and VMware), Shared Desktop (XenApp), Private Clouds, Application Packaging as a Service, and Application Streaming.

Industry and financial analysts alike anticipate a skyrocketing global demand for virtualization. Research firm Gartner predicts a market opportunity for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure of $65.7 billion in 2013, up from about $1.5 billion three years ago.

“As BTG continues to help enterprises worldwide adopt these emerging technologies, Adam’s leadership will play a critical role in ensuring maximum ROI for our customers,” added Mr. Kaplan.
