The name may have changed, but the newly announced Quest Workspace Desktop Virtualization 7.6 product takes over where Quest vWorkspace 7.5 left off. It seems as though Quest is moving away from the "v" something or other naming convention and adding a more descriptive name to the product -- Workspace Desktop Virtualization. While it may not have a flashy name, it does get the point across as to what the product is and does.
So what's new in Quest Workspace Desktop Virtualization 7.6? Some of the interesting new features include:
- Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
Support (Experimental) - Quest Workspace Desktop
Virtualization (formerly vWorkspace) 7.6 introduces experimental support for
Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 to allow customers to enjoy the benefits of
the next version of Windows today and prepare for a migration to Windows
8 and Windows Server 2012 when Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 are officially
released later this year. Specifically, we offer customers the ability to start
benefiting from some of the great user experience improvements (RDP/RemoteFX)
that Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 introduce.
- User Workspace Context - Quest Workspace Desktop Virtualization (formerly vWorkspace) 7.6
introduces a feature called User Workspace Context. This new feature provides a
wealth of information about the context of the user workspace such as latency
and bandwidth, type of Connector used, type of device used, and vWorkspace
Connector version so IT admins can gain valuable insights. These insights can
be used when creating advanced targets. User Workspace Context is a perfect
feature to support BYOD initiatives that are a IT priority for many customers
today.
- Foglight for Virtual Desktops
Integration - Quest Workspace Desktop
Virtualization (formerly vWorkspace) 7.6 introduces integration with Foglight for Virtual Desktops (part of
the vWorkspace PREMIER SKU). Customers are provided a true single console
thereby benefiting from a unified administration experience, including
single-sign-on to Foglight for Virtual Desktops.
- Support for SCVMM 2012 and SQL Server
