Veeam
Software, innovative provider of backup, replication and
virtualization management solutions for VMware vSphere and Windows
Server Hyper-V, announces new restore capabilities for Veeam Backup &
Replication. Developed in conjunction with HP, Veeam
Explorer for SAN Snapshots enables IT administrators to recover
virtual machines (VM) and their data directly from HP
LeftHand and HP
StoreVirtual VSA snapshots.
The new capability enables admins to quickly restore any or all of a
VM directly from SAN snapshots, which can be taken throughout the day
with very little impact on production systems. This enables short
recovery point objectives (RPOs) for the most common recovery
scenarios: users accidentally deleting data, scripts accidentally
corrupting data and system updates gone wrong.
Veeam’s approach is to leverage SAN snapshots as part of a
comprehensive backup and recovery strategy, where SAN snapshots and
image-level backups complement each other. Rather than converting SAN
snapshots to backups, Veeam uses them in their native form.
Veeam Explorer for SAN Snapshots was created for the virtualization
community to address the need for affordable, easy-to-use, and
flexible recovery from SAN snapshots. The new capability is:
-
Fast – Recover an entire VM or individual items in 2
minutes or less.
-
Fully automated process mounts the selected SAN snapshot.
-
Restores directly from VM files on the SAN snapshot (without
staging or intermediate restores).
-
Includes easy-to-use wizards to simplify and safeguard
restores.
-
Flexible – Admins can restore exactly what they need:
-
Full VM
-
Individual guest files
-
Individual Microsoft Exchange items
-
Free – Leverages existing SAN snapshot capabilities.
-
Worry-free: Automated process eliminates human errors and
protects integrity of SAN snapshots and production LUNs.
-
Agent-free: No agents to deploy on hosts or VMs.
-
Literally free: Included in all editions of Veeam Backup &
Replication 6.5, including Veeam Backup Free Edition.
Quotes:
Ratmir Timashev, President and CEO, Veeam Software
“We worked with HP to develop Veeam Explorer for SAN Snapshots. Veeam’s
revolutionary capability enables customers to recover quickly from daily
disasters using SAN snapshots they already have in place without
additional cost.”
Steve Crimi, Director of Business Development and Alliances, HP
“To maintain competitive advantage, organizations require quick and
reliable data backup and recovery processes. The combination of Veeam
Backup & Replication software with HP LeftHand and HP StoreVirtual VSA
solutions enables our clients to restore their virtual environments more
quickly to minimize business disruption.”
Luca Dell'Oca, Virtualization and Storage Expert, Moresi.Com SA
“In our datacenter we have always limited the use of storage snapshots
due to the complexity and effort required for restore operations, and we
solely relied on Veeam backups. Now with the storage integration between
HP LeftHand and Veeam Backup & Replication, we have a new powerful way
to guarantee more frequent backups via storage snapshots, and have
everything managed nonetheless via the Veeam console like we already
did. We can now guarantee to our customers even higher SLAs and better
RTO.”
Nathan Bayliff, Network Administrator for a City in the Midwest U.S.A.
“The capability to use the new functionality via a simple intuitive
interface like Veeam is known for will definitely be huge. It will
really make life much easier!”
Dave Russell, Research VP,Gartner
“Gartner sees growing interest from end-user organizations in bolstering
backup with additional data protection capabilities. In one recent
survey, nearly two-thirds of respondents said they have plans to augment
backup software with snapshot and replication solutions. End-user
organizations most frequently cite network-attached storage (NAS) and
block storage array snapshot capabilities as the technologies they are
turning to.”
