Sumo Logic for VMware Delivers Real-Time Operational Insights for Complex and Dynamic Virtualized Environments

Sumo Logic, the next generation log management and analytics company, today announced the availability of Sumo Logic for VMware, which delivers a streamlined and simple solution for collecting, managing and analyzing machine data from VMware infrastructure. Sumo Logic for VMware enables enterprise IT professionals to search, visualize and analyze all VMware logs in real time to enable monitoring and detect important events within complex virtual environments. Eliminating the need for on-premise log management solutions that require expensive upfront investment in hardware and frequent software upgrades, Sumo Logic delivers the first petabyte scale cloud platform that provides companies with immediate access to valuable operational insights from VMware log data and other machine data in real time.

According to Gartner, Inc., the spread of virtualization and cloud computing has added a new volatility and dynamism to the IT stack. Enterprises that have adopted agile-principled development methodologies further exacerbate the pace of IT system change. Old-style event correlation and root cause analysis technologies based on a structured, static understanding of topology relationships between IT infrastructure components fail to keep up with the new dynamics. IT operations analytics technologies provide automated assistance to discover complex patterns in large, rapidly evolving data volumes. Humans simply won't be able to keep up with the complexity and rate of change in the IT environment, and computer-assisted, multidimensional IT operations analytics tools that can operate rapidly across high volumes of data will be a necessity.*

Sumo Logic for VMware enables enterprises to achieve higher availability and service levels, faster troubleshooting and proactive debugging across VMware environments. With Sumo Logic for VMware, IT teams can:

  • Collect and centralize logs and metrics from ESX/ESXi, vCenter Server and individual virtual machines.
  • Correlate VMware events with events generated by host and guest operating systems, applications and networks to gain end-to-end visibility of IT infrastructure issues and performance.
  • Discover issues related to over-provisioning, changes to configuration and virtual machine movement.
  • Gain an in-depth view of important performance metrics such as virtual machine CPU, memory and disk utilization.
  • Determine capacity constrained and under-provisioned physical hosts and idle virtual machines to improve VMware deployment strategy and drive greater efficiency.

"VMware logs contain important information used to troubleshoot and monitor virtual environments," said Arman Sharafshahi, President and Co-Founder of Accelerad. "The ability to collect, centralize and analyze VMware logs will provide significant operational insights for SeeMyRadiology.com, an Accelarad venture."

The core innovation of the Sumo Logic log management and analytics service is the company's patent-pending LogReduce™ technology, which uses real-time forensics to reduce millions of log lines into a manageable set of patterns that enable IT teams to quickly identify and resolve operational issues. It is also powered by the patent-pending Elastic Log Processing™ technology, the first petabyte scale indexing and search platform designed specifically for Big Data volumes, allowing it to far surpass the scalability of on-premise solutions. By collecting all machine data and storing it for an unlimited amount of time, Sumo Logic's powerful algorithms can notify IT teams proactively with push notifications and improve overall IT posture and service levels.

"By delivering the first petabyte scale cloud platform, Sumo Logic provides the unparalleled ability for more than 350,000 VMware customers to transform VMware log data into actionable insights," said Vance Loiselle, president and CEO of Sumo Logic. "Sumo Logic for VMware capitalizes on the deep domain expertise of our technical team to develop technology that revolutionizes how companies derive operational insight from machine and log data. We look forward to continually expanding our product portfolio for enterprises looking to benefit from the intersection of big machine data and operational analytics."
