Egenera Delivers Public Cloud Integration with Amazon Web Services

Egenera, a leader in converged infrastructure and cloud management, today announced the next major release of its cloud management software, PAN Cloud Director 2.0, which features integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Adding Amazon Web Services to the PAN Cloud Director service catalog and portal provides a first of its kind cloud experience for users as it enables them to build IT solutions that span public and private clouds, and can also consist of a mix of virtualized and physical servers. The capability to design, build and manage hybrid cloud environments from within a single management interface is unique to Egenera and the integration with Amazon Web Services is a key milestone in delivering on Egenera’s vision for simplifying and unifying cloud management.

As organizations look to a hybrid cloud model, cloud operators need the ability to allocate the right kind of resource for each workload, based on criteria such as performance, security, high availability and cost. Amazon Web Services is the first of many public clouds that will be accessible through PAN Cloud Director to provide the greatest user flexibility.

According to Gartner, hybrid cloud management capabilities are vital to end-user organizations as they offer the best possible mix of agility and cost effectiveness.

“Organizations should start their hybrid cloud journey by assessing requirements for what needs to be processed internally and what services can be processed on the outside,” said Donna Scott, VP and Distinguished Analyst, Gartner. “Choose a cloud management platform (CMP) that enables management of all resources and services, including those operating both internally and externally.”

PAN Cloud Director, a key component of the Egenera Cloud Suite, is a complete cloud provisioning and management suite, with an easy-to-use interface to build solutions using a drag and drop designer. With PAN Cloud Director 2.0, users can include EC2 resources in their service catalog to quickly design, build and manage hybrid cloud environments. The open architecture of Egenera’s Cloud Suite means that enterprises and service providers can have the utmost flexibility to create cloud services that support all of their application needs:

  • Supports servers from all the major server vendors including IBM, HP and Fujitsu
  • Supports all the major hypervisor products including VMware, Hyper-V, Xen and KVM
  • Provisions and manages both physical and virtual servers
  • Provides N+1 high availability and disaster recovery
  • Provisions internal infrastructure and public cloud resources.

“The cloud is rapidly becoming defined by its ecosystem,” said Dan Busby, vice president of product management at Egenera. “With so much innovation happening in the Amazon ecosystem and with customers demanding truly hybrid cloud management solutions, the decision to integrate with EC2 was an easy one. Making it simple for organizations to use both private and public cloud resources and to easily manage their hybrid clouds helps to further position Egenera strategically with cloud buyers from the managed services and corporate markets.”
