Blue Medora Release Increases Productivity by Adding VMware Provisioning Capabilities to Oracle Enterprise Manager

Today, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based software developer Blue Medora, a leader in helping companies extend the monitoring and management capabilities of leading systems management solutions from Oracle, IBM, and VMware, announced the 3rd major release of its Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM12c) plugin for VMware.

The plugin is the first and only of its kind, addressing the needs of the growing number of companies that are moving more of their IT infrastructure to cloud-based solutions for better flexibility and efficiency. The plugin extends the Oracle Enterprise Manager environment by providing IT admins and DBAs a much deeper view into their systems virtualized through VMware than they currently have as well as extending EM12c's management capabilities to provision, modify, and scale VMware-based virtual machines.

"Oracle EM12c has been widely adopted by customers and a significant portion of them are heavily utilizing its management capabilities to enable DBaaS and MWaaS for their Oracle workloads," said Nathan Owen, Blue Medora CEO. "The latest release of the Blue Medora Oracle Enterprise Manager plugin for VMware extends EM12c's capabilities to provisioning Oracle database and middleware deployments directly onto VMware based virtual machine infrastructure."

Owen said the Blue Medora Oracle Enterprise Manager Plugin for VMware includes features designed to maximize Oracle Enterprise Manager’s VMware functionality. The release includes:

  •     A redesigned user interface that enables Oracle EM12c-based creation of new VMware virtual machines from templates, clone existing VMware virtual machines, and reconfigure and/or scale existing VMware virtual machines.
  •     Integration of the new VMware virtual machine provisioning and reconfiguration / scaling capabilities with EM12c's EMCLI command line utility -- allowing those capabilities to be easily included in customer workflows.
  •     Deeper storage performance monitoring for VMware datastores as well as VMware virtual machine virtual disks including IOPS measurements.

"With the VMware plugin, enterprises are able to reduce the amount of time it takes to provision their Oracle workloads onto VMware ," said Owen. "What previously took as long as six weeks for the Oracle and VMware infrastructure teams to coordinate on the multi-step process of provisioning Oracle database and middleware onto VMware can now be accomplished in hours."

Blue Medora Enterprise Manager Plug-in for VMware is priced according to the number ESX hypervisor CPU sockets monitored or managed.
