Happy SysAdmin Day - 14 Years Running

In case you didn't know, today was the 14th annual SysAdmin Day.  And if you've ever been a system administrator, you know... these folks definitely deserve a day like this so they can finally get the recognition for all that they do.

So, what exactly is it?  And how did it start?

SysAdmin Day started celebrating 14 years ago thanks to Ted Kekatos.  According to a report on Wikipedia, “Kekatos was inspired to create the special day by a Hewlett-Packard magazine advertisement in which a system administrator is presented with flowers and fruit-baskets by grateful co-workers as thanks for installing new printers.  Kekatos had just installed several of the same model printers at his workplace.”  Ever since then, SysAdmin Day has been celebrated on the last Friday in July.

With that said, VMblog sends out a very Happy #SysAdminDay message to all of the administrators out there!  I hope the people you work with gave you kudos... or cake... or free pizza... or some cool electronic gift... or....

SolarWinds celebrated the day with another one of their cool Thwack community campaigns.  This time, a meme challenge for prizes!  You can check them out here and see the winners:

Also, check out this fun video that they did as well.  Enjoy!
